Step 1

Combine the water, yeast and sugar in a small bowl. Set aside for 10 minutes or until foamy

Step 2

Combine the whole grain flour and salt in a large bowl and make a well in the centre. Add the yeast mixture and oil. Use your kitchen aid with a bread hook to combine the mixture. If you don't have a kitchen aid, use your hands to knead the dough. The dough is ready when it’s smooth and elastic.

Step 3

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and allow to rise for at least one hour. It might not double in size but be patient with it as it will not rise as quickly as white flour.

Step 4

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F / 200 degrees C.

Step 5

Add all pizza sauce ingredients in a blender and mix well. Add extra seasoning to taste.

Step 6

Dust work surface with flour. Knead the dough to push the air out with your hands. Divide into four parts. Use a rolling pin to roll each part into an even circle.

Step 7

Using a spatula, add pizza sauce to the dough. Add your desired toppings and sprinkle some sea salt, pepper and herbs as you like.

Step 8

Bake in the centre of the oven for about 10-20 minutes until the base is golden and crispy. Cool, on a rack, slice and serve while hot.
