Step 1
Prep Time10 mins Cook Time15 mins Heat 6 cups of chicken broth. This can be done with real broth or bouillion, the choice is yours. Make sure to keep it on a medium low heat, at no point in this recipe do we want the broth to boil.
Step 2
Prep Time10 mins Cook Time15 mins Dice about 6 cups worth of french bread/baguette to the size of croutons and set aside. Dice the garlic cloves and set aside. Keep in mind that we will be browning the garlic so if you dice it very finely you'll have to be alert to avoid burning it Give the Jamon Serrano a light chop, just enough so that you are able to get a comfortable bite of meat in a spoon.
Step 3
Prep Time10 mins Cook Time15 mins In a medium sized pot, separate from the broth, add in the oil and garlic at a medium heat. The amount of oil listed in the ingredients is a safe suggestion but if you want more, feel free to pour it up. The goal is to brown the garlic, not burn it, so be careful not to overdo it. If you're not an expert in the kitchen, its safest to just remove the garlic from the heat and set it aside until you need it again Add the cubed bread to the oil and mix it around. We want the oil so seep into the bread. Remove the pot from heat, add all of the jamon and paprika and mix well.
Step 4
Prep Time10 mins Cook Time15 mins Add the warm chicken broth into the jamon and paprika mixture in the pot. Once the broth is in you may place it back onto medium heat. At this point you can add the garlic and bread back into the broth. Drop the pot to medium-lowish heat and cover. The trick here is to never let the soup boil, just to stay warm enough to mix the flavors and cook the eggs when we add them in later. Let the soup simmer for 15-20 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5
Prep Time10 mins Cook Time15 mins You'll want to add one egg per serving, however depending on the presentation that you want there are two approaches to take. For a more complex, but more artistic presentation, skip to the next step. The easy option is to crack 4 eggs into the soup and mix well, they wont need much time or heat to cook! Once the eggs are mixed into the soup, serve and enjoy!
Step 6
Prep Time10 mins Cook Time15 mins The pretty option is to separate the egg yolks and egg whites. Do not let the egg yolks mix or break, you'll want them intact for when you serve. Add the egg whites into the soup and mix well, just like in the easy option listed above. Once the eggs are properly incorporated, serve into bowls. After serving carefully place the unbroken yolk on the soup, the heat of the soup will cook it. Now that your dish looks like a million bucks, enjoy!
