Step 1
Place each chestnut flat side down on a cutting board; cut 2 slits in the shape of an “X” into the rounded side of each chestnut’s shell, trying not to cut down into the flesh. In a large bowl, combine the scored chestnuts with enough hot water to cover. Let stand for 10 minutes.
Step 2
Preheat an air fryer, if necessary, to 375°F. Drain the chestnuts. Pour 1 cup of water into the base of the air fryer basket. Add the chestnuts to the basket and place inside the base. Air-fry until the shells start to peel back where they were scored and the chestnuts smell nutty-fragrant, about 10 minutes. Serve warm.
