Beginner Hooded Scarf Crochet Pattern

Step 1

Ch a multiple of 2 in order to obtain a desired length. I chained 200 for the scarf, and 80 for the hood.

Step 2

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn.

Step 3

Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across. Turn.

Step 4

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st and into first ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk next st, sc into the next ch-1 sp, repeat from * to last st, sc in last st. Turn.

Step 5

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, sk next st, sc into next ch-1 sp, repeat from * to last 2 sts, ch 1, sk next st, sc in last st. Turn.

Step 6

Rows 5-6: Repeat rows 3-4.

Step 7

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch-1 sp across. Turn.

Step 8

Rows 2-7 form the pattern rows. Repeat them until you have reached a desired width. Fasten Off. When fastening off for the hood, leave a tail long enough to sew the back seam for the hood.

Step 9

To sew the hood seam, fold the hood so that the right sides are facing each other. Sew the two edges of the last row together.

Step 10

Fold the scarf in half so that the wrong sides are facing each other. Then with the right side turned in, take the hood and position it over the scarf so that the edges and the center of the hood are lined up with the scarf. The right sides of the scarf and hood should face each other. Pin and sew together.

Step 11

Turn the hood right side out and arrange it between a damp towel and allow to dry. This helps to make the seam less visible.
