Classic Gin Gimlet

lime juice

simple syrup

Cucumber wheel or lime wedge,

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in the gin, lime juice and simple syrup. Stir vigorously with a long cocktail spoon until very cold.

Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass, or strain over a rocks glass filled with ice, depending on preference. Garnish with the cucumber wheel and serve immediately.

Adding salt on the rim of the glass will enhance the taste and experience of this delicious drink ! 

Whatever Geoffrey Zakarian wants to call this cocktail is fine by me, my husband and I love it - the cucumber garnish is perfect!

Delicious whether or not it is really a “classic”...

<div>This may be a great drink, but it is NOT a "Gimlet" of any sort, let alone a "classic" Gimlet.</div><div>As I am sure Mr. Zakarian understands, certain changes in ingredients can transform a dish into something new, but if those ingredients are fundamental to the actual integrity of the original named creation, then one must necessarily call it something ELSE.</div><div>A Gimlet - properly made - must contain PREPARED lime juice (a cordial) ... and NOT fresh lime. It is all fine and good to take your fresh lime and even make a house-made lime cordial to use. (Takes a bit of time.)  </div><div>But if you mix fresh lime in your drink, you are creating some variant of several other drinks (including a Gin Rickey) ... but you are NOT creating a Gimlet.</div><div>Reference Harry's ABC of Mixing Cocktails from 1922.  Or talk to Dale DeGroff.</div><div><br /></div>

This is a great, simple to make, classic cocktail (not sure about the cuke garnish - but adds to the balance. Hey, this is 2018, right?  Why not?)   Fresh lime juice is the way to go. This has perfect balance, nice sweetness and balanced tartness,   My great aunt always had a gin gimlet (made with Rose's) but the fresh lime juice elevates this cocktail to a new level.  As with so many of GZ's cocktails, once you've had this version, you will be disappointed if you order this cocktail out.
