Step 1
Preheat a large pot over medium-low heat. Thinly slice the onions. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, the butter, and the onions to the pot. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes. Add the salt and the sugar. Cook for another 35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and light brown. Add the white wine, broth, and Worcestershire sauce and continue to cook until most of the liquid is absorbed, about 7 minutes.
Step 2
Preheat the oven to 425°F. On a baking sheet lined with parchment or a lightly greased pizza pan, press the pizza dough out into a wide circle. Bake for 10 minutes.
Step 3
For the crust seasoning, melt the butter and mix in the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
Step 4
To the partially baked crust, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the minced garlic and spread evenly. Add the onions to form an even layer across the crust. Top with the shredded cheese and the fresh thyme leaves. Brush or spoon the butter mixture around the outside of the crust. Bake for an additional 10 minutes, until the crust is a deep brown and the cheese is completely melted and bubbly.
