Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 3

In a large pan, add the ground beef and the diced onion and cook over medium-high heat, while crumbling the meat, until the beef is browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

Season the beef mixture with the salt and the pepper.

Step 5

Drain any excess grease from the pan.

Step 6

Using the flour, lightly dust a work surface. Roll the French bread dough out on the work surface into a large rectangle.

Step 7

Spread the ketchup and the mustard evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges.

Step 8

Evenly layer the cooked beef mixture on top of the condiment layer.

Step 9

Sprinkle the crumbled bacon and the chopped pickles over the beef layer.

Step 10

Place the American cheese on top of the bacon and the pickles in a single layer.

Step 11

Roll up the dough, starting from one long end to the other, and seal the edges.

Step 12

Place the rolled-up dough onto the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down.

Step 13

Brush the dough with the beaten egg.

Step 14

Sprinkle the sesame seeds on top of the egg wash.

Step 15

Bake until the dough is golden-brown, about 20-25 minutes.

Step 16

Let the bread cool for at least 5 minutes.

Step 17

Slice and serve with the Thousand Island dressing.
