Mocha Truffles

(12 ounces each) semisweet chocolate chips

(8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

instant coffee granules

water

chocolate

White candy coating, optional

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips; stir until smooth. Beat in cream cheese. Dissolve coffee in water; add to cream cheese and beat until smooth.

Chill until firm enough to shape. Shape into 1-in. balls and place on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Chill until firm, 1-2 hours.

In a microwave, melt chocolate coating; stir until smooth. Dip balls in chocolate; allow excess to drip off. Place on waxed paper; let stand until set. If desired, melt white coating and drizzle over truffles.

This is a great base recipe! I made a double batch this year because my family loves them so much. I only make two minor changes. I fill a k-cup with hot water and use all of that for the coffee and water. Then I use semi-sweet chocolate chips with a tablespoon or two of refined coconut oil instead of candy coating (and 6oz is not enough, I usually end up doubling).  They are also very rich, so I make them smaller (about 1/2-3/4 of an inch). Our favorite topping if we decide to add one is crushed candycane pieces!

This is a great recipe the only thing I changed was to add 1 Tablespoon Of powdered espresso

I totally wasn't thinking when I added water (in the coffee) to melted chocolate...it seized. Adding water to melted chocolate is a no no!  I made again and added oil based flavoring and they were great!  Oil based flavoring is a lot stronger then extract, 1/4 to 1/2 tsp is plenty!

I have used several different truffle recipe's and this one is by far the best. It was easy to do and tasted delicious. The only thing I did differently was cut the coffee in half.

I made these for my in-laws' Christmas celebration in 1994 & they were a tremendous hit!  Even my father-in-law who rarely ate sweets, but loved coffee, ate more than a few!  I didn't change a thing with the recipe.  These are a regular feature in our Christmas candy assortment.

It is worth looking for the best ingredients possible in dark chocolate, cream cheese and instant coffee.  Outstandg recipe!

I  make these every Christmas and my family loves them.  I also gave them as gifts this year.  They are easy to make and look beautiful.

These are delicious and easy to make. After I shape them into balls, I put them in the freezer for about an hour before dipping them so they don't get too soft from the warm chocolate coating.

Very good.  These have a very rich coffee flavor, next time I might use 2T of instant coffee rather than 3.  But overall, very good recipe.

This is a favorite recipe of ours to make at Christmas.  Sometimes we substitute mint chocolate chips for the semisweet chips and omit the coffee and water.  The results are equally as delicious!

Very rich and tasty.  We enhanced this recipe just a little bit by adding toffee bits on top, I think it made it even more decadent if that is possible.

I have used this recipe many times.  it is so good, they just do not last.  I have to keep the ingredients on hand for when my family requests them on short notice. Fast, easy ans sooooo very good!

I found this recipe when it originally came out in the magazine. I make these truffles every year for Christmas. Everyone loves them and looks forward to them AND they are so easy! I'm so happy they are on the website. YEAY!

Took these little guys to a Christmas party and they were a huge success. Definitely will make again.

Awesome!  One suggestion--dip truffles, place on a sheet of waxed paper to harden (decorate if desired) and then place in the foil cups.  We tried to put the dipped truffles directly into foil cups and it was very messy!  Not thinking! I'm sure these will become a holiday candy standard. Excellent!!!

Way too rich.  I love chocolate of any kind but found this to be super rich.

The taste was great - but they were so soft it was impossible to work with them.  I even tried freezing them so I could coat them, but they literally dissolved as soon as I put them in the chocolate to coat them.  I tried both dark chocolate and white chocolate.  No luck with either.

I made these at Christmas but ended up with a lot left over and gone to waste, people just found the coffee flavor too stong.
