Whisking together your own buttermilk dressing is easy and makes every salad (or any other dippable dish) just that much more delicious and special. You can use homemade mayonnaise or a high-quality prepared variety.

Ranch Dressing

garlic

salt

mayonnaise

buttermilk, plus more as needed

chives

parsley leaves

white wine vinegar

scallion,

black pepper

Mash the garlic and salt into a paste with the side of a chef's knife. In a medium bowl, whisk together the garlic paste, mayonnaise, 1/4 cup buttermilk, chives, parsley, vinegar, scallions and pepper to taste. If the sauce is very thick, thin the dressing with a couple tablespoons more of the buttermilk. Use immediately or store covered, in the refrigerator, for up to 3 days.

So awesomely delicious &amp; easy! Like the previous reviewer, will not buy bottled ranch dressing again. The fresh herbs &amp; real buttermilk put this over the top. I doubled the recipe a couple times to see how it tasted with other foods, like cooked veggies, eggs, seafood. The yummy possibilities are endless! The hard part is what to do with the rest of the buttermilk-not available in less than quart. But I found other recipes calling for buttermilk so nothing wasted  IMHO, one of FN’s best &amp; all purpose recipes.

I found this recipe many years ago in desperation. I was looking for a gooooddd ranch and was fed up with store bought ranches. So I thought I’d look into making it myself. Omigosh this is good. It was the gooooddd I was looking for. It is so fresh and flavorful. I’ve made this recipe so many times I could do it in my sleep. I always double the recipe now because it goes so fast and people clamor for more. I always get asked to bring “my” ranch to get-togethers and I always get compliments. It is quite fun watching somebody try it for the first time, maybe absent-mindedly thinking they were getting a grocery store dip (use a smidge less buttermilk to make it slightly thicker, or not, as it is usually thick enough for me) and then seeing their eyes pop cuz it IS that gooooddd.
