Pulse until everything is finely minced, 10 to 12 times.Once the beef is browned, reduce the heat to medium

Step 3

Add 1 tablespoon of the butter or olive oil along with the minced pepper-onion mixture

Step 4

Cook, stirring occasionally, until the liquid is reduced and the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes

Step 5

Add the ketchup, ⅓ cup water, tomato paste, brown sugar, chili powder, mustard, garlic powder, Worcestershire, and salt, stirring to combine

Step 6

Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to medium-low

Step 7

Cook until the beef mixture is thickened, about 5 minutes more

Step 8

Meanwhile, turn the broiler to high

Step 9

Spread the insides of the hamburger buns with the remaining 3 tablespoons butter

Step 10

Place the buns, buttered side up on a baking sheet and broil until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes
