The Best Sloppy Joes

In a large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat, combine beef and onion. Cook until the meat is mostly browned, about 5 minutes. Drain well.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl whisk together tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire, and salt and pepper to taste (I like 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper). 

Pour sauce ingredients over drained beef and stir until evenly coated. Simmer uncovered 20 minutes, stirring occasionally (cover if you prefer a sloppier Sloppy Joe). Serve in buns.

Brown the ground beef in a large skillet, drain the extra grease and remove the ground beef and set aside.

In that same skillet add the 2  tablespoons of butter and melt over medium high heat and add the onions and saute until transparent, about 3 minutes.

Stir in all remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 5 to 7 minutes. Watch for bubbling and splattering tomato sauce!

Add the ground beef to the sauce in the skillet and stir together and cook until all is reheated.

Butter the inside of the buns and toast them on a griddle pan.

Spoon the meat mixture on to the prepared buns and enjoy.

First, prepare the sauce by mixing all of the sauce ingredients together in a bowl or jar until they form a smooth sauce.

Pour the sauce in the bottom of the Instant Pot.&nbsp;

Breaking the ground beef into small pieces with your hands, add the ground beef to the Instant Pot on top of the sauce.

Chop the onion and bell pepper and add them to the instant pot on top of the ground beef. You don't need to mix anything, you want the sauce on the bottom so the Instant Pot will pressurize.

Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and close the pressure valve. Press the "manual" button (or "pressure cook" button) and set the time to cook for 15 minutes at high pressure. Quick release the pressure once finished.

Remove the top and mix the sloppy joes up, breaking up the beef into smaller pieces as needed. Taste and season with salt and pepper as desired.&nbsp;

Serve and enjoy.

Brown ground, chopped onion, and garlic in a large skillet over medium high heat. Drain grease and add the taco seasoning and salsa.&nbsp;

Reduce heat to medium low and cook for about 5 more minutes until mixture has thickened and is heated through. Add up to 1/2 cup of water to achieve desired consistency. Recipe video above. Everybody loves Sloppy Joes - and they're easy to make from scratch! I like making it with crushed tomato and less ketchup, and skipping the flavoured canned tomato sauces. Ideal freezer food, and to scale up to make for gatherings. SWEETNESS: Sloppy Joes are typically quite sweet, this is less sweet than most. But if you want it with just a bit of sweetness, skip the brown sugar and add it in gradually towards the end, adjusting to taste.

Melt butter in a large pot over high heat.

Ad garlic and onion, cook for 2 minutes until onion is almost translucent.

Add capsicum and cook for 2 minutes until softened.

Add beef and cook, breaking it up as you go, until it changes from red to brown.

Add remaining ingredients. Mix well, then turn heat down to medium low (or low for strong stoves).

Cover and cook for 30 minutes, stirring once or twice to make sure it doesn't catch on the base. (If in rush, cook 15 minutes without lid)

Remove lid and give it a good stir for a minute. Mixture should be thick, not runny and saucy (see video). Adjust salt to taste.

Toast rolls. Butter if desired (I don't).

Pile on lots of filling, immediately top with cheese (heat should semi melt, otherwise pop under broiler/grill). Top with lid and serve immediately!

Season with salt and pepper and add in the diced peppers and onion. Cook another 5 minutes until the veggies are tender and beef is browned.

Add the minced garlic and saute 30 seconds until fragrant, stirring constantly. Add in the sauce and bring to a light boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve on toasted buns for Sloppy Joe Sandwiches.
