Step 1
Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a heavy saucepan.
Step 2
Beat egg yolks and milk, mixing well.
Step 3
Stir into dry ingredients, cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened.
Step 4
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
Step 5
Layer one-third of the vanilla wafers in a 2-quart baking dish. Slice 2 bananas and layer over the wafers.
Step 6
Pour one-third of the filling over bananas.
Step 7
Repeat layers twice.
Step 8
Serve immediately or it can be served after cooling in the refrigerator.
