Ingredients to make banana pudding are taken.

Caramelize the banana: To a shallow fry pan, add 2 sliced banana and sprinkle 3 tbs of sugar.

Over a low-medium heat, Fry the banana for 3 to 5 mins till the sugar melts and turns to a nice golden color.(gently flip the bananas not to mash them) Collect the caramelized banana on a small plate and set aside until we use it.

To make custard sauce: To a saucepan, add 1/2 cup sugar and 1Tbsflour. Whisk lightly. Add 1.5 cups of milk and 1/2 cups of condensed milk.

Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture for 8 to 10 mins till it slightly thickens.

Whisk egg yolk: To a small mixing bowl whisk 2 egg yolks until it turns to a pale yellow color.

Pour the custard sauce: Now to the beaten egg yolks, add the custard and beat for 2 mins.

Back to heat: Pour the custard mixture to a saucepan and stir over medium heat for 3 mins till the custard is thickened.
The custard should coat the back of the spatula.

Off from the heat, mix in vanilla essence and butte.

To assemble: to a baking dish or any type of serving glass, first sprinkle some crushed biscuits, add a layer of caramelized banana, pour in the custard.

Repeat the layers: crumbled biscuits, caramelized banana, and custard sauce.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Before serving: sprinkle some crushed biscuits over the pudding and serve.

(5.1-oz.) package vanilla pudding mix

(14-oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

I made this recipe. It was quick and easy to put together. I did not have sweetened condensed milk, so I combined one can (12 ounces) of evaporated milk with 2 1/4  cups of granulated sugar which I then boiled on the stovetop stirring constantly until it thickened. Chilled it in an ice bath to cool so that I could add it to the instant pudding mixture. Everybody loved this super smooth delicious banana putting.

This was the first time I made this recipe because I usually make banana pudding from scratch with egg yolks and milk and cook on the stove until done. I will definitely save this recipe and make it again and again (this time I’ll make sure I have sweeten condensed milk in the pantry before I begin). I've made Banana Pudding different ways. I always prefer homemade pudding of course, but I usually don't have the time. I "never" use instant pudding, I don't buy it, it taste fake. I use the Cook&Serve Vanilla pudding. I've never used banana pudding (it doesn't taste like real bananas). I don't use condensed milk because it makes it too sweet. I usually use 2 tubs of Cool Whip, 1 for the pudding and the other (about ¾) for the topping. My great-grandmother never used any type of whipped topping and it came out great, of course she made everything from scratch. 
My aunt uses French Vanilla pudding. It's very good, if you like French Vanilla pudding.

I've made this recipe for about 20 years.  If you're in a pinch,  use Cool Whip and it's even easier.  I add the bananas to the pudding/ cream mixture and then layer that between the wafers.

I've never seen or had banana pudding made with instant pudding.

Separate the yolks from the whites of 3 of the eggs; set aside the whites. Add the remaining whole egg to the yolks.

In a saucepan, whisk together 1/2 cup sugar, the flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Stir in the whole egg and 3 yolks, and then stir in the milk. Cook uncovered, stirring often, until the mixture thickens, about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla.

Spread a thin layer of the pudding in a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish. Arrange a layer of vanilla wafers on top of the pudding. Thinly slice the bananas crosswise, about 1/8 inch thick, and arrange a layer of banana slices over the wafers. Spread one-third of the remaining pudding over the bananas and continue layering wafers, bananas and pudding, ending with pudding.

To make the meringue, beat the reserved egg whites with a pinch of salt until they are stiff. Gradually beat in the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and continue beating until the whites will not slide out of the mixing bowl when it is tilted.

Spread the meringue over the pudding with a spatula, making a few decorative peaks on top, and bake until the meringue is lightly browned, 5 minutes.

Who the heck is Art Smith-his recipe is different than Trisha's, so if you like it better, then use it-but do not criticize Trisha's recipe which is fantastic.  My family loved this and I will make it for them a lot in the future.  The thing I really like about Trisha's recipes is they use basic ingredients that everyone has around the house, and you can tweak them to your taste and still have good results.  You rock Trisha!

My son was like no way you made this pudding. He thought it came out of a Jello box. It was so good and easy. I am a good cook but custards are not an easy thing to get right, this one is great..LOVE it.

Adding meringue and serving it warm takes it to a whole new level!

Not being from the south this dish is not popular in my area. Every time I've tried it,while out, it was flavored with banana extract, which ended up being really gross. I knew this might be something I would like so I had to find the perfect recipe and this is it! It was so delicious! My husband who hates bananas even ate it and I may or may not have eaten half the pan right out of the oven. So easy and so delicious! Thank you Trisha. This is now a family staple in our home.

Excellent and easy.  The pudding was smooth and very tasty.  I used Trader Joe's vanilla wafers and very fresh farm eggs (dark yellow yolk and great flavor made all the difference).  Never buying box pudding again. A low broil can also achieve a lightly browned meringue.

The BEST Banana Pudding

bananas (sliced 1/4 inch thick)

heavy whipping cream

tsp vanilla extract

oz cream cheese (softened)

oz sweetened condensed milk

3.4 oz instant banana cream pudding mix

vanilla

Make whipped cream.

Add heavy whipping cream to the bowl of a stand mixer or large bowl and beat on medium high speed for a minute or two until soft peaks form.

Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract and continue beating until stiff peaks form. Set aside.

Whipped Cream

Make pudding mixture.

Add cream cheese to the bowl of a stand mixer or large bowl and beat until smooth. Add sweetened condensed milk and beat until combined.

Add pudding mixes and milk and beat for 4 to 5 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Fold in whipped cream.

Pudding Mixture

Start Layering

Line a 9 x13 baking dish with one layer of Nilla Wafer cookies. Top with half of the banana slices.

Spread half of the pudding mixture on top of the bananas and add another layer of Nilla wafers.

One more layer of banana slices, the remaining pudding mixture and then top with remaining whipped cream.

Refrigerate

Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Remove from refrigerator and garnish as desired. Mini Nilla Wafers, banana slices, or wafer crumbs are great ideas! Serve immediately.

3-1/2 Tbsp all-purpose flour

This Banana Pudding knows no bounds when it comes to comforting, flavorful decadence. Creamy, luscious pudding and fresh bananas all layered between crisp, golden chessman cookies. This dessert is so much more than your average pudding!

chessman cookies (about 2 packages)

vanilla pudding ((5 oz box))

oz cream cheese (softened (1 package))

oz sweetened condensed milk ((1 can))

Prep:

Prep: Line the bottom of a 8x8x2-inch baking dish with lady chessmen cookies. You should be able to get 5 across by 4 down, so 20 cookies per layer.

Make Pudding:

Make Pudding: In a bowl, combine the milk, pudding mix and blend using a handheld electric mixer until smooth. Set aside and let it set.

Mix &amp; Combine:

Mix &amp; Combine: Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth. Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture. Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended.

Assemble:

Assemble: Pour half the mixture over the first layer of the cookies then top with the sliced bananas. Top with remaining cream cheese mixture and spread evenly over the bananas. Finally top with another layer of chessman cookies.

3.4 oz (small box) Instant Vanilla Pudding (make sure it is INSTANT)

1- 12 oz box Nilla Wafers regular

In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large bowl whisk together the can of sweetened condensed milk and 1 1/2 cups cold water until combined.

Add the pudding mix and beat with a whisk or the whisk attachment. The mixture should be smooth and all pudding ingredients dissolved.

Cover and refrigerate for 2-3 hours, overnight, or up to two days ahead of serving. Make sure to allow the pudding enough time to set up.

In a large bowl, or the bowl of a stand mixer, whip the heavy cream in a clean bowl for a few minutes (this takes about 3-4 minutes in a stand mixer on high until the cream is stiff.)

Using a rubber spatula, fold the whipped cream into the set up pudding mixture until no streaks of pudding remain. Don't beat with a mixer; gently fold mixture so the cream doesn't deflate! You may use a large whisk and whisk by hand.

To assemble dessert, use a large glass bowl, trifle bowl, 9x13 pan or 10-20 4-8 oz cups

If making in small individual containers, I like to use a 1/4 cup measure and place pudding in the bottom of the bowl or cup first, then layer sliced bananas and a layer of cookies. Repeat and end with a little pudding mixture on top. Cover and let chill for 4-8 hours.

When ready to serve, slice a few bananas and place a Nilla Wafer or crushed wafers on top of each serving if making individual portions. If making in a bowl, arrange in three layers and end with either wafers or pudding on top.

(14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk

5-7 bananas, (peeled and sliced)

In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy.

Add in sweetened condensed milk, pudding mix, milk and vanilla extract.

Mix until combined well.

Finally, stir in half of the whipped topping.

To layer: place one-third of the vanilla wafers in a layer on the bottom of a trifle dish, large bowl or a 9x13 baking dish.

Add a layer of bananas.

Then pour one-third of the pudding mixture on top (enough to cover all the bananas).

Continue with two more layers.

Top with remaining whipped topping.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one to two hours before serving so it can thicken up and the wafers can soften.

Preheat oven to 325º F.

Combine flour, sugar and salt in a large, heavy saucepan.

Lightly beat egg yolks and combine with milk in a large bowl or measuring cup. Pour the egg and milk mixture into dry ingredients in heavy saucepan. Cook over low to medium heat, stirring constantly, until ingredients are thickened and smooth. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in vanilla.

To layer your banana pudding, begin by placing vanilla wafers on the bottom of a 2 quart oven-safe glass bowl or baking dish.

Slice bananas and place on top of wafers.

Pour one-third of custard over wafers and bananas.

Repeat layering process two more times until all wafers, bananas, and custard have been used, ending with a final layer of wafers.&nbsp;

Whip egg whites with an electric mixer set at high speed.

Allow egg whites to foam, add cream of tartar and then gradually add sugar one tablespoon at a time.

Continue whipping until sugar is well-dissolved.
