Steakhouse Soup

steak sauce, divided

carton (32 ounces) beef broth

red potatoes, cubed

beef

(16 ounces) frozen vegetables of your choice, thawed

Sounds like way too much Steak Sauce. I had this on a cruise ship and they also added  mushrooms. Very good.

I made this last night and consider it to be good, but not great. I did make some changes, however, which might have affected the taste. First, this wasn't made in a crockpot or slowcooker. I browned 1.5 lbs. of sirloin after chopping it up in the food processor. I also used fresh veggies: About 15 sliced mushrooms, ten sliced brussel sprouts and half a head of cabbage. I also added one six ounce can of a mushroom steak sauce, so I cut the amount in half. I also added two teaspoons of Tom Yum paste seasoning. Freshly chopped garlic was also added with the onion and the seasonings in the recipe. I doubled the water amount from two cups to four. I also prepared a half cup of pearl barley in 2.5 cups of water and a teaspoon of sea salt. I prefer barley over potatoes sometimes. I simmered everything else for 30 minutes, adding the barley at the end of the cooking process. I wish I would have washed the steak bits after cooking to get every last bit of fat out. Meat just tastes sharper to me when I add that step, though this chunk of sirloin was not fatty. Perhaps it was the steak sauce? I don't know. This just isn't the home run type of recipe I normally get from Taste of Home.

I mostly enjoyed  this soup but I agree with some of the other comments about it being too much steak sauce.

Made this last night for dinner - family really liked it &  didn’t change the recipe at all. It always makes me laugh when people give a recipe a low rating & say “I made/followed the recipe” but then change an ingredient whether it be one or many. Then obviously you did not follow the recipe as stated, you changed it given other reviews or your own preference, but in either case you didn’t make the recipe given.

This sounds great. I also do not have steak sauce so  did a search to see what I could substitute you can substitute 1/2c ketchup and 2 tab Worcestershire sauce.

My husband and I loved this soup. Next time I will use a little less steak house and no peas (they got way too cooked). I would also add more veggies, green beans, corn, diced carrots worked well.

On my first day of shelter at home, I made this recipe.  It is one of the best recipes I've ever made.  I stretched it out, but finally finished it off today.  On the phone, I told one of my friends about this great soup.  Then I went to find the magazine.  I have all of the Taste of Home magazines since 2001.  Could not find that one.  Out of desperation, I went to Taste on Home.com, prepared to beg for the info.  I was amazed that after all these years of subscribing to this publication, I just now found out that you can search for recipes from the magazines.  I found the Steakhouse Soup quickly.  I have now printed one for myself and one for the friend who asked for it.  I am so excited to find this source.  Since we are encouraged not to go out, I probably will spend much of today on this site.  THANK YOU!!

I just prepared this recipe.  It was absolutely delicious!  I have very picky grandchildren and they both loved it.  My husband raved about as well as my 2 grown daughters.  I will definitely be making this again as I try different veggie choices.

Made this soup the other day and everyone loved it!  Great flavor and super easy to put together.  Not only did I love that it was a slow cooker soup, but I really loved the fact, that aside from chopping the onion and potatoes, there was literally no prep whatsoever.  Throw everything in slow cooker and forget it!  Be sure to add the steak sauce....it gives the soup a rich, almost sweet flavor.  I am keeping this one very handy!

Our family enjoyed this soup. I did use fresh vegetables (carrots, celery and peppers vs frozen.) I also added a can of diced tomatoes instead of the water. Also cut the steak sauce in half based upon previous comments.

This is a good hearty soup!  Our 20-something kids really liked the flavor, and what little was left over reheated nicely the next day. I cut back a bit on the steak sauce because we don't like things too spicy.  This recipe also works well with fresh vegetables substituted for the frozen; be creative with your substitutions!

I tried this recipe last week. I was excited to try it due to it being something different. It was very easy to put together by being able to throw everything in the crockpot with no prior prep. The flavor was good, not too spicy. I personally didn't love it though. If I were to make it again, I'd maybe make a slurry with cornstarch and water to thicken it up a bit and make it more into a stew. I think I'd add just carrots and potatoes next time as well.

I made this soup based on all of the positive reviews I read and I followed the recipe exactly, other than the fact that I used the steak sauce substitute as another reviewer did, since I don't keep steak sauce on hand. Three stars is maybe an overstatement for us. My husband didn't care for the taste and I wasn't wowed. We have many other ToH soup recipes that we love. This seemed bland and flavorless in comparison.
