Step 1

In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar together.

Step 2

Add remaining ingredients and mix well.

Step 3

Spread dough in a greased 9x13 pan and pat it smooth.

Step 4

Bake at 350° for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool for 15 minutes.

Step 5

Turn onto a baking sheet and cut into 1½ x 3" strips or 2" squares.

Step 6

Bake at 300° for 1 hour to dry. Let cool and store in airtight container.

Step 7

NOTE: These are very hard and must be dunked in coffee or tea.
