Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a skillet, heat oil/butter over medium heat. Add chopped onions and cook until softened.

Step 3

Add ground beef and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until beef is browned. Drain excess fat.

Step 4

Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.

Step 5

In a large bowl, mix the beef mixture with cream of mushroom soup (and optional sour cream and vegetables).

Step 6

Transfer mixture into a greased baking dish. Spread shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.

Step 7

Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.

Step 8

Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until tater tots are crispy and golden.

Step 9

Remove from oven, garnish with green onions or chives if desired, and serve hot.
