Step 1

Preheat oven to 160C. Grease and line a 20cm-diameter cake tin with baking paper.

Step 2

Beat butter, sugar and vanilla until pale and creamy. Gradually add eggs, beating well after each addition. Add flour, baking powder and milk and beat to combine. Pour into prepared baking tin.

Step 3

Bake in the oven for 50 minutes or until an inserted skewer removes clean. To cool, turn out onto a wire rack.
