Preheat oven to 300°F.

Fill a heavy saucepan or deep fryer with oil to at least 3 inches deep.
Step 3
Place on stovetop and heat to 425°F.
Step 4
In a large bowl, add biscuit mix, club soda, minced onion, cornmeal and onion powder. Mix well.
Step 5
Shape the hush puppies into 1-inch balls.
Step 6
Carefully drop puppies, a few at a time, into hot oil. Fry and turn until evenly browned, about 4 minutes.
Step 7
Using a spider strainer or slotted spoon, remove puppies from oil and place on a paper towel-covered plate to drain.
Step 8
After drained, put puppies on a cookie sheet and place in warmed oven. Repeat frying, draining and warming until all puppies are cooked.
Step 9
Keep warm until ready to serve.
