Baked Ham Sandwiches

butter, softened

onion

mustard

poppy seeds

hamburger buns, split

deli ham

Swiss cheese

In a small bowl, combine the butter, onion, mustard and poppy seeds; spread about 2 tablespoons on each bun. Layer with ham and cheese; replace tops. Wrap each sandwich in foil.

Bake at 350° for 6-10 minutes or until cheese is melted.

I have been making these since the early 70's.  Do not eliminate any of the ingredients and prepared mustard is the "yellow kind for those of you that do not know.  Great sandwich and I have yet to meet the person who doesn't like them.  Simple and easy to make.

Pretty good lunch!  I used light ingredients and these were yummy and easy for a Weight Watchers lunch with the rest in my mom's freezer ready for her to make while recuperating from an upcoming surgery.  I haven't baked the frozen ones yet, but I would recommend cooking the fresh sandwich a bit longer than 10 minutes to heat more through the middle.  Good with plain mustard; I used the full 1/2 cup.

I added a few tweaks.  I sliced up some apple and threw that on there too.  I used spicy mustard and skipped the poppy seeds.  I also used Kings Hawaiian hamburger buns.  DELICIOUS.  My husband was drooling a bit.  This was a great quick dinner!  I served this with a cold pasta salad.  I will be making this again!Update: I've since tried them as-written, and I have to say I still like it better with my tweaks.  Love it with the apple, spicy mustard, Hawaiian buns, and without the poppy seeds.

this is one of our favorite sandwich recipes.  YUM!

I leave out the poppy seeds and make mini sandwiches on hawaiian rolls. Even better!

My mom has used this for years too.  We use "Dollar" rolls, I use wheat and brumel and brown. I buy a spiral ham when on sales and stock the freezer. We'll grab a handful, heat and take fishing. They hold well.

This is a very good recipe that's been around for years.  Great for parties, too, on mini-buns or rolls.

Excellent ... but need to clarify:Are the sandwiches to be baked for 10 minutes and then frozen? Then to eat frozen sandwiches, bake at 350 for 30-35 min.?

Been making these forever, my mother made these when we were young and had alot of activities going on. Just leave them in the oven on low, and everyone can grab them as they come and go. We always use velvetta instead of swiss

Hi ... I haven't made these yet but I wanted to respond to Slammer's question.  The way I'm reading the recipe, you bake them for 6-10 minutes if you're baking them immediately.  Or, you can freeze them before baking, then bake the frozen sandwiches for 30-35 minutes.

Taste really really yummy but looks nothing like the nice crisp photo they have in the recipe. Ha ha :)

These are great sandwiches.  They are simple to make and have great flavor.  The buttery spread takes them over the top.

My mother has been making these sandwiches for years.  They are so good!

Nice and easy little sandwiches to make ahead of time to have on hand for busy days.  They tasted very good!!!

I have also made these little guys on a english muffin, open faced and put it in the oven and melted the cheese, nice for a lady's luncheon.....
