Step 1

In a mixing bowl, sift the powdered sugar to remove any lumps.

Step 2

Add the light corn syrup and 2 tablespoons of milk to the powdered sugar.

Step 3

Stir or whisk the ingredients together until smooth and well combined. The mixture should have a thick consistency similar to that of honey.

Step 4

If the icing seems too thick, add an additional tablespoon of milk, one teaspoon at a time, until you achieve the desired consistency.

Step 5

Add vanilla or almond extract for flavor, if desired, and mix well.

Step 6

For colored icing, divide the mixture into smaller bowls and add food coloring, a few drops at a time, until you reach your desired colors. Mix thoroughly.

Step 7

Once your sugar cookies are cooled, use a piping bag, squeeze bottle, or small spoon to apply the icing onto the cookies.

Step 8

Spread the icing evenly over the surface of each cookie, allowing it to flow and cover the desired areas.

Step 9

If you’re creating different colors or designs, allow each color to set for a few minutes before adding the next layer to prevent bleeding or mixing of colors.

Step 10

Let the decorated cookies sit at room temperature for 1-2 hours until the icing is completely set and hardened.
