Step 1
Heat 2-inches of cooking oil in an 8-quart pot to 350°F. Prepare a tray with a double layer of paper towels. Set aside.
Step 2
In a medium mixing bowl, combine buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce. Beat with a fork to combine. Add pickles to buttermilk mixture and stir to combine.
Step 3
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, paprika, garlic powder and cayenne pepper.
Step 4
Add a handful of pickle slices to flour mixture. Swirl pickles around to be sure they are well coated. *See NotesShake off excess flour and drop 7 or 8 pickles, one at a time, into hot oil. Avoid frying more than that at one time, so the temperature does not drop too much.
Step 5
Fry pickles for 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on tray lined with paper towels.
