Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2
Using the extra butter, grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
Step 3
In a large bowl, mash the bananas.
Step 4
Add the eggs, the brown sugar, and the remaining 1/2 cup of the melted butter to the mashed bananas and whisk well to combine.
Step 5
In a medium-sized bowl, whisk the flour, the baking soda, the cinnamon, and the salt.
Step 6
Gently fold the flour mixture into the banana mixture.
Step 7
When only a few streaks of the flour mixture remain, add 1 cup of the chocolate chips and 1 cup of the walnuts, folding them into the batter.
Step 8
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and then top it with the extra chocolate chips and the extra walnuts.
Step 9
Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 1 hour 5 minutes-1 hour 15 minutes. Check the loaf after 45 minutes and if it is browning too quickly, cover the top loosely with foil.
Step 10
Remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes in the pan.
Step 11
Invert the pan to remove the bread and let it finish cooling on a cooling rack.
Step 12
Slice the banana bread and serve.
