Grease a 2–quart baking dish with the butter.

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.

Add the egg noodles to the water and cook to al dente, according to the package directions.

Transfer the egg noodles from the stove and drain them well.

In a large bowl, mix the egg noodles, the cottage cheese, the sour cream, the salt, the pepper, and the chives together.

Pour the noodle mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Bake until the egg noodles begin to brown and the mixture becomes bubbly, about 30 minutes.

Transfer the casserole from the oven and allow it to cool for 15 minutes.
