Add all the ingredients to a bowl and whisk very well. Alternatively, what I prefer, is to add them to a small mason jar with a lid and shake vigorously until well mixed. This easy Homemade Apple Pie Spice Recipe is made using real apples and has such great fall flavor! Use it in baked goods, on toast, in oatmeal, hot chocolate and so much more! All you need is a bag of dried apple chips, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.

Apple Pie Spice Recipe (Made with Real Apples!)

(3.4 oz) bag baked apple chips (or similar sized)

Open your bag of dried apples and add them all to a high powered blender.  You can probably use a food processor for this recipe, but it may not ground the apples up into a fine powder quite like a vitamix blender, or something similar, would do.

Turn the blender on low and slowly turn up to high speed.  It should take about 30 seconds or so to completely blend the apples into a fine powder.  You will want to use a top on the blender because there will be a lot of small pieces, kinda like dust, that will be produced by blending the dried apples.  Once the blender is turned off and let everything settle for a minute or so before removing the lid.

Next, pour the apple spice mixture into a jar or bowl.  Add in the cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves and mix well until everything is combined.  You can use this apple pie spice immediately or store in an airtight container for about 6 weeks.

The apple mixture will clump together, naturally, so you will probably need to give it a good mix before using, if you&#8217;ve been storing it for a little while.  The clumps should easily break apart and form a powdery spice blend again after mixing together.  Just make sure you store it in an airtight container.  If you&#8217;re really having issues with the clumping, add it back to the blender and blend it for a few seconds.

Classic apple pie is given a fun makeover, with sweet spiced apples wrapped in layers of crispy phyllo dough and with a homemade caramel sauce for dipping.

Apple Pie Phyllo Rolls With Caramel Sauce Recipe

unsalted butter

lemon juice

brown sugar

phyllo pastry, thawed

water

Neutral oil

heavy cream

vanilla extract

Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Add the apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to the saucepan and stir until the apples are coated.

Cook until the apples are softened, about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Let the mixture cool.

Carefully remove one of the phyllo sheets from the package (keep the rest covered). Brush it all over lightly with water.

Pull the bottom of the pastry up to the top to fold it in half.

Place ⅕ of the filling on one end leaving some space on all sides.

Fold the bottom of the pastry up to cover the filling.

Roll up the rest of the roll until there is about an inch left on the top of the pastry.

Brush the top bit of pastry with water, then press into the roll to seal it, set aside. Repeat with remaining sheets and filling.

Heat 2-3 inches of oil in a Dutch oven or deep fryer to 360 F and fry 2-3 apple rolls at a time for 2 minutes each side, until golden brown.

Place the fried apple rolls on a paper towel-lined plate to cool.

Meanwhile, add the sugar and water to a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan and swirl to combine.

Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and eventually turns an amber color, about 8-12 minutes. (Do not stir, just swirl the saucepan occasionally and brush down the sides of the pan to prevent crystallization).

Whisk the butter into the caramel until melted.

Slowly pour in the cream and whisk until it is completely incorporated.

Remove from the heat and whisk in vanilla extract and salt.

Pour the caramel into a separate bowl or jar and let cool until it thickens.

Dust the apple rolls with powdered sugar if desired and serve with caramel sauce for dipping.
