applesauce spice cake

This applesauce cake is perfectly moist, scented with cinnamon and brown sugar. And you mix the entire dough in the cake pan! No mixing bowls required.

Easy Applesauce Cake

all-purpose flour

brown sugar

cinnamon

baking powder

baking soda

salt

olive oil

plain Greek yogurt

unsweetened applesauce (or homemade applesauce)

vanilla extract

Powdered sugar,

Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.

Put the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into the baking pan. Use a fork to thoroughly mix the ingredients together.

Use your hands to make a hole in the center of the dry ingredients. Into the hole, crack the egg and add the olive oil, yogurt, applesauce, and vanilla. Use a fork to mix the ingredients together until smooth and blended. Smooth the top of the batter with the side of a butter knife.

Bake until the cake is fairly firm when you press lightly at its center and a toothpick inserted in the middle has no wet batter sticking to it, 25 to 30 minutes.

Remove from the oven and leave on the counter to cool completely, 1 hour. Leave the cake in the pan. Dust with powdered sugar. Cut into pieces and use a small spatula to lift them from the pan.

An easy, family-friendly, scrumptiously moist applesauce spice cake with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. It is perfect for potlucks, family events, fall parties, and festivals.

Applesauce Cake Recipe

½ cups all purpose flour

ginger

nutmeg

cloves

applesauce

eggs room temperature

vegetable oil

sugar

walnuts

unsalted butter

cream cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour a 9&#215;13-inch baking dish

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, and ground cloves.

In a large bowl, combine the applesauce, eggs, vegetable oil, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract.

Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture in several increments mixing just until combined. Fold in the walnuts and pecans if using. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.  Move the pan to a wire rack to fully cool.

Using a stand mixer with a paddle attachment or a hand-held electric mixer, beat together the butter, cream cheese, cinnamon, and vanilla until light, fluffy and smooth.  Turn the mixer to low and gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until well combined. Scrape down the bowl and beaters as needed.

Spread the frosting on the fully-cooled cake. This cake should be refrigerated because of the cream cheese frosting.
