Pork roast is slowly braised in milk with fresh rosemary, sage and porcini mushrooms. The meat becomes tender and succulent while the milk turns into a delicious sauce that has a nutty like flavor.

Italian Pork Roast with Milk and Fresh Herbs and Lemony Polenta

unsalted butter

olive oil

pork

garlic

dry white wine (we used Pinot Grigio)

milk

heavy cream

mushrooms

anchovy paste

red pepper flakes

lemon

rosemary

chicken broth (low-sodium)

buttermilk

yellow cornmeal

Parmesan (grated)

butter

salt (q.b.)

black pepper (q.b.)

Heat butter and oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until butter melts. Add pork, fat side down, and sear until brown, 3-4 minutes. Brown pork on all sides, about 5 minutes more; transfer to a 4- to 6-qt. slow cooker. Add garlic to skillet; cook 30 seconds.

Deglaze skillet with wine, scraping up any brown bits. Add milk, cream, porcini, anchovy paste, pepper flakes, and zest; simmer 3 minutes. Pour milk mixture around pork in slow cooker; submerge rosemary and sage. Cover slow cooker and cook pork until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part register 145 degrees F on low setting, 2 hours. Transfer pork to a platter and tent with foil to keep warm. Discard rosemary and sage.

Purée sauce in the&nbsp;slow cooker with a handheld blender until smooth; season with salt and black pepper.

Slice pork and serve with sauce and Lemony Polenta.

Whisk together the broth, buttermilk, and cornmeal in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, and cook, whisking constantly, about 5 minutes; remove from heat.&nbsp;

Stir in Parmesan, butter, and zest; season with salt and pepper.&nbsp;

I love a good pork dinner. I will admit I have NEVER tried preparing it this way. I need to experiment in the kitchen for sure. Once the cooler weather gets here, this is happening for dinner!! Can't wait to give it a try.

Anxious to try this recipe....another interesting twist to cooking pork and  polenta...Yum.   I admit I’ve been using my crockpot for years, especially, when I worked.   It was always comforting after leaving work, picking up kids at school and walking into a fragrant house as crockpot dinner cooked....Meals were always juicy and flavorful....desserts and appetizers also a winner in crockpot.

The sauce looks so good. White wine, cream, and mushrooms....so much yum. My family adores this.

A delicious sauce that starts out with brown butter and a quick sauté of garlic and shallots then the addition of three kinds of mushrooms. It is finished with the addition of sour cream adding to a rich finish.

Italian Meatballs in Creamy Mushroom Sauce

cooked warm meatballs --

directions.

garlic (slivered)

shallots (minced)

mushrooms (shiitake, cremini (baby bellas, white button))

thyme (chopped)

white wine

beef broth

sour cream

flour

Salt and pepper

Melt the butter over medium heat in a pan with a light-colored bottom so you can keep an eye on the color of the butter. When the color of the butter turns from lemon yellow to a golden tan add the garlic and shallots. Sauté for about a minute.

Add the mushrooms and continue to sauté until the mushrooms release their liquid and you can see them taking on a golden color about 10 minutes.

Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and mix well. Sprinkle in the thyme and continue to sauté for about another few minutes cooking the flour with the butter and mushrooms.

Stir in the beef broth and wine. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for another 10 minutes. The sauce should be thickening.

Stir in the sour cream, mixing well.

Add the meatballs to the creamy mushroom sauce and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes bathing the meatballs with the rich sauce.

Serve the meatballs and creamy mushroom sauce over the prepared fettuccine.

The sauce was a bit thin. Maybe use 2 beef bouillon cubes in less than 2 cups of water? I followed all of the directions.

I would recommend some sort of cheese as a topping to this recipe. I forgot my Parmesan at my mom's house, so I used Whole Mk Mozzarella. I used bowtie pasta (farfalle) because it's easier to eat. Very good, and could even be a soup without the pasta.

The idea of browning the butter first is just awesome, so much flavor! Thanks for this recipe. I always make meatballs in tomato sauce, and this is like the best alternative as we're all mushroom lovers here.
