Quick questions: Can you use ayran as a "base" to make more ayran? Or perhaps mix it with plain yogurt as part of the recipe?

I noticed that certain imported ayran lists good bacteria strains not found in plain yogurt or even local store-bough ayran. I also notice it has a distinct taste that I really enjoy :)

El ayran es un batido de yogur de origen turco, ligero y refrescante, que suele tomarse frío como tentempié entre las comidas o acompañando platos picantes o dulces. A continuación, la receta paso a paso.

Ayran is a savoury and delicious yogurt drink made with only 3 ingredients: yogurt, water and salt. Give this Turkish drink a try!

5-Minute Ayran Recipe (Turkish Yogurt Drink)

full fat yogurt

dry mint

- 1 teaspoon salt, per preference

Ice cubes (when serving)

mint (when serving)

Pour the yogurt in a jug (if your jug has a wide enough mouth, you can mix it directly inside. Otherwise use a bowl).

Whisk the yogurt to smooth out any lumps.

Add half the water and whisk.

Add the rest of the water, dry mint, and salt and whisk well until combined. Taste and adjust the water and salt.

Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Add ice cubes if serving right way.

Garnish with fresh mint leaves and enjoy!
