Turmeric Broth Detox Soup - a naturally healing, soothing and comforting, Ayurvedic soup that is very customizable to your needs. Vegan and GF adaptable!

Turmeric Broth Detox Soup

olive oil

onion- diced

ginger,

4-5 garlic cloves- grated or finely minced

turmeric powder

mustard seed (optional)

cumin

coriander

salt

water

stock

¼ teaspoon cayenne, or more to taste

Squeeze of lime juice or lemon juice apple cider vinegar

basmati rice (dry)

½ cup little dry lentils (or 1 cup cooked)

garbanzo beans (or canned, drained)

tomatoes

cilantro leaves

chickpeas (or chicken)

dry noodles

cauliflower

kale

lime

In a large heavy bottom pot or dutch oven,  saute onion in 1-2 T olive oil over medium heat for 5 minutes until fragrant and golden. Add ginger, garlic, and fresh turmeric and saute  2-3 minutes until eh garlic is fragrant and golden.  Add the mustard seeds, cumin, coriander, and optional turmeric power and saute 1-2 more minutes.

Add water, stock and salt. Bring to a simmer. Add vinegar or citrus. (I like a squeeze of lime) Taste. Adjust salt, lime and spice level to your liking. At this point you will have a flavorful base to add what you like. You can also refrigerate or freeze this in batches for later use.

Remember uncooked pasta and beans will double or triple in size, so add moderately ( 4 ounces dry pasta)

Remember to think and be sensible about cooking times for each ingredient you add. (see notes in post )

Awesome soup for after indulging in too many sweets over the holidays. I added green beans, shiitake mushrooms, spinach, and odon noodles.

I made the Mediterranean eastern ‘minestrone’ but omitted the rice/grains and added an extra cup of lentils instead to thicken it! I also added two large, finely chopped carrots and some flat leaf parsley along with the cilantro! Both myself and hubby love it. It will now be in my rotation of feasting at home recipes 💫 thanks Sylvia and give your dad a big virtual hug 🤗

Love this!  I tried it last night when I was desiring something tasty, soothing and nourishing.  It was perfect.  I wanted to keep it super light so I just added rice and steamed broccoli.  My husband loved it too.  As a bonus - we have yummy leftovers, which always feels like a gift to my future self.  This broth is my new go to when I want a light, warming meal.

I just made this. Wow! Fragrant and tasty. I added celery and fresh chilli to the onion and garlic mix. Later, I will add fresh home-grown vegetables to the broth for a healthy first-course. Thank you Sylvia.

I studied eastern western medicine the chinese have been using tumeric as an anti inflammatory  for over 300 years I'm going to use this broth for lemon ginger chicken soup it's on Pintrest also thanks for review I made my mind up very quickly Thank you good day

Sylvia: You hit it out of the park again! I have made many of your recipes and commented on a few, always outstanding. The turmeric detox broth I made last night was a total life changer though. After 10 full days of severe stomach flu, I had ice chipped and plain brothed food back into my body to the point I could slowly sip your detox broth to take in actual nutrition. I had about two cups and cried as I felt my cells come to life, then slept for 14 hours. I feel so cared for today as my body moves forward after the broth. My gratitude is boundless today. Bless you for putting yourself out there!

Kitchari Recipe

coconut oil

tsp cumin seeds

tsp fenugreek seeds

tsp mustard seeds

tsp fresh ginger (grated)

tsp turmeric

tsp sea salt

Black pepper (to taste)

jasmine rice (or basmati rice)

moong dal

vegetable broth

coconut milk

herbs (like cilantro leaves

You can watch the video in the post for visual instructions.Heat the coconut oil in a large pan or pot and once hot, add cumin seeds, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds, and mustard seeds. Fry for about 30 seconds, then stir in fresh ginger, ground turmeric, salt, and black pepper.

Add the vegetables of choice (I added carrot, zucchini, broccoli) and stir to combine.

Also, add rice, moong dal, and the vegetable broth. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Let simmer over low heat for about 20-25 minutes, then cover the pan and simmer for a further 10-15 minutes.

Pour in the coconut milk and stir to combine. I also added spinach and let the mixture simmer for a further 5 minutes until the desired consistency was reached.

Add more veggie broth or coconut milk for a soupier dish. Taste it and season with additional salt, pepper, and spices, if needed. Enjoy!

Kitchari - Ayurvedic Moong Dal Recipe

How to make a simple anti-inflammatory golden milk powder spice mix (aka turmeric latte mix) with just 5 spices and in 5 minutes! Use it to prepare golden milk and golden lattes (turmeric latte) – packed with nourishing, healthful, immune-boosting benefits!

Golden Milk Spice Mix/Powder (Turmeric Latte Mix)

Tbsp ginger powder

tsp black pepper (freshly ground!)

cinnamon powder (Ceylon, optional)

cardamom powder (optional)

Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl and then transfer to an air-tight container - voila!

This blend can be stored at room temperature for around 4 months or kept within the fridge for slightly longer. I recommend you store the spice blend in a cool, dark location like a kitchen cupboard. The shelf life for this spice blend will depend on how old your spices are. With fresh spices, you could potentially store this golden milk mix for up to 2 years. However, for the most potent flavor and results, I aim to use it within 4-6 months then make a new batch with new spices. 

I am on my third batch, before I had been making it each night as an individual drink but this recipe saves me time and the ratio must be different than the individual mix as this does not have the sharp flavor.  I add the spices in a ziplock, seal it and shake.  It is then mixed and stored at the same time.  I add it to my morning coffee and to green tea in the evening

I drink this every morning with oat or almond milk.  It really does help with aches.  I ran out for a while and thought why am I so achy?  Now that I am back to my daily dose, I feel much better.

Die Butter in einen kleinen Topf geben und bei schwacher Hitze schmelzen. Dabei darauf achten, dass sie nicht bräunt.

Die geschmolzene Butter dann bei schwacher Hitze ca. 35 Minuten offen köcheln lassen. Dabei nur bei sehr geringer Hitze leicht köcheln, damit sie nicht(!) bräunt. Während des Köchelns entsteht aus den geronnen Milcheiweißen der Butter ein Schaum, der sich an der Oberfläche absetzt. Diesen Schaum mit einer Schaumkelle immer wieder abschöpfen, bis die Gheemasse goldgelb, klar und fast durchsichtig aussieht.

Zwei kleine gereinigte Einmachgläser (z. B. Marmeladengläser) auf feuchte Geschirrtücher stellen, damit sie beim Einfüllen nicht zerspringen. Die Gheemasse durch einen mit Kaffeefilter ausgelegten Trichter, ein Mulltuch oder ein sehr feines Teesieb in die Gläser füllen. Die Gläser verschließen und die Gläser ca. 10 Minuten kopfüber auf den Deckel stellen.

Die Gläser wieder umdrehen und das Ghee vollständig auskühlen lassen. Wenn das Ghee ausgekühlt ist, hat es eine cremige Konsistenz.


 	Gute Brateigenschaften: Ghee ist hoch erhitzbar, bis 190 Grad bleiben die Fettsäuren stabil und daher eignet es sich gut zum Braten. Denn die Fettsäuren oxidieren nicht und dadurch entstehen keine freien Radikale, die deiner Gesundheit schaden.
 	Ghee kann nicht nur zum Braten, sondern durch seine feste und streichfähige Konsistenz und den Buttergeschmack auch sehr gut als Butter- oder Margarine-Ersatz auf Brot gegessen werden.
 	Für Allergiker geeignet: Da Ghee frei von Lactose und Milcheiweiß ist, kann es auch von Menschen mit einer Intoleranz verzehrt werden.
 	Gute Haltbarkeit: Ghee hält sich sehr lange und muss nicht gekühlt werden.
