This Romanian apple rice pudding is a lovely recipe that can be made all year around. Turkish Rice Pudding Recipe (Sutlac)

Place the rice and 2 cups whole milk in a large pot. Cook over medium heat until the rice is fully cooked.

Add 4 cups whole milk to the cooked rice and bring it to a simmer.

Add in vanilla extract and sugar and stir well.

In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and the remaining 1/3 cup whole milk to make a slurry. Add it to the rice and milk and simmer over medium low heat for about 25 minutes. Keep in mind that the rice pudding will still look watery and not very thick.

Preheat the oven to 400°F and place 4 to 6 oven-safe ramekins in a 9x13 baking pan.

Divide the rice pudding between the ramekins. Fill the baking pan halfway with water. This will prevent the rice pudding from drying.

Bake in the oven for 15 minutes on the middle rack until the tops are brown. Check constantly to make sue they&#39;re brown enough for your liking. If they&#39;re not browning as much, turn on the broiler and broil them 3 to 6 minutes.

Once the rice pudding is ready, cool it at room temperature and then refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving. The rice pudding will thicken as it cools in the fridge.

Preheat the oven to 325° F (165° C). Lightly butter a 4x6 or a 5x5-inch baking dish.

Boil a kettle of water to make a water bath. Place the baking dish with the rice pudding into a larger baking pan. I use either an 8x8-inch pan or an 8 or 9-inch round pan. Pour the boiling water into the larger pan until it reaches halfway up the sides of the rice pudding dish.Place the pan on a rimmed sheet pan which will make it easier to transfer into and out of the oven.Pro Tip: This is called a water bath or a bain marie. A water bath is a dish of water used to bake recipes requiring gentle, even heat. It insulates the dish so that it doesn&#39;t overcook. Please don&#39;t be put off by this, it&#39;s incredibly easy. You will need to find a pan that will comfortably hold your small baking dish while maintaining an inch or more of space around the sides for the water. A small to medium-sized roasting pan works well.

Place the pan in the oven and bake for 50-55 minutes, until lightly browned and set.

Baked Rice Pudding

Grams (1/2 Cup/3.5 ounces) Granulated Sugar/Caster Sugar

165 Grams

Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract

Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

(1 1/2 Cups) Evaporated Milk

(1 Cup)Whole Milk

(1 Cup) Heavy Cream/ Double Cream

Tablespoons Butter, diced

In a shallow casserole dish approx 11"x7" 2 inches deep, I used this Le Creuset Au Gratin Dish add everything but the butter, gently mix around for a minute or two so everything is combined. Add chunks of cubed butter on top.

Bake for 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes- you want a dark golden skin and all the liquid should be absorbed. Let cool on a wire rack for 20 minutes before serving. Store in fridge. 

I tried my hand at this recipe with additions of raisins. It is scrumptious and comes out beautifully!

Don’t know what I did wrong. I only cooked it for two hours and it was dry, not creamy at all.

YUM...this was delicious!  My mum used to make this all the time when I was a kid and I have recently had a huge craving for baked rice pudding. This did not disappoint.  I don't like it too sweet so this was perfect.  I also add sultanas and pour more evaporated milk over it to eat it once baked.   This was the first time I had made a baked rice pudding and it was for a family gathering for New Years Day...no pressure!!.  The family loved it and the recipe was shared!! I've been trying to find an equivalent to my grandmother's recipe that was lost, this is it! Although I prefer sprinkling cinnamon and a little more sugar on top at 3/4 of cook time rather than mixing cinnamon in. Great recipe, thanks

Great recipe. Taste like my mom's rice pudding. I used plain long grain rice, added sugar as 3/4 cup and added another cup of whole milk and 1/2 cup of water to wash out the evaporated milk can. OMG I will be making it again.
