These banana fritters are the perfect way to use up your overripe bananas. They are sweet, but not overly sweet as they do not contain any added sugar. They are soft, fluffy with a rich flavor from the bananas. Enjoy for breakfast, snack time or dessert. They pair well with tea or coffee!

Banana Fritters

overripe bananas

flour

baking powder

salt

milk

eggs

nutmeg

Peel the bananas and place in a large bowl. Mash with a wooden spoon or potato masher to form a paste (it will have lumps in it and that's okay).

Add the rest of the ingredients into the bowl except the oil for frying. Mix until just combine to form a batter. The batter will be light and drippy.

Place oil in a pan up to 3 inches then heat up on high heat to 365 degrees Fahrenheit. Reduce the heat to medium (this is important because very hot oil will result in the fritters burning on the outside without cooking through.  Place tablespoonfuls of the batter into the pan (if you have a small cookie scoop, use it to drop the batter into the oil). Do not overcrowd the pan. Let the fritters cook until golden. Flip to the other side and let them cook until golden too. Remove and place on paper towel to absorb excess oil. Repeat process with the rest of the batter.

Enjoy for breakfast with some tea, or as a snack, or serve with chocolate sauce as a dessert.

Banana Fritter Recipe

large mashed overripe bananas

2% milk

vanilla extract

all purpose flour

brown sugar

cinnamon

allspice

cloves

vegetable oil

cinnamon sugar (optional)

In a large bowl, mash peeled bananas.  Stir in milk and vanilla.

Whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and nutmeg in a medium bowl.  Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir just until incorporated.

Heat 1 inch vegetable oil in heavy stockpot, Dutch oven or cast iron skillet to 350-375 degrees. Drop rounded tablespoons of batter into the fryer. Cook until golden brown on the bottom; flip and cook the other side until golden brown.  Work in small batches, making sure to cook all the way through. Place fritters on paper towels to drain.  Dust with powdered sugar or roll in cinnamon sugar and serve warm.

I would totally make these and dust them with some powdered sugar. The look of them remind me a lot of zeppoles which are an Italian puffed dough treat. I bet they are delicious.

I had only had apple fritters and had never tried banana until I made this recipe!  They are so good and amazing when dipped in maple syrup!

Peel the raw banana and cut it into long and thin slices. Soak it in water for 5 minutes and meanwhile prepare the batter.

In a bowl, add besan, rice flour, red chilli powder, salt and turmeric along with 1/2 cup of water. Give a good mix to make a thick batter. Add baking soda and whisk to make the batter fluffy.

Take out the banana slices from the water and pat them dry using a kitchen towel. Now dip them in the besan batter and coat well from all sides.

Pour oil into a kadhai and keep on high heat. Once smoke arises from the oil, turn the flame to medium. This step is crucial if you are using mustard oil.

Now gently drop the coated banana slices in hot oil. Deep fry from both sides until golden in colour. Take out the fried pieces on an absorbent paper.

Banana Fritters are now ready to be served. Pair up with chutney of your choice and serve.
