In a large pot over high heat, combine the water and Thai tea leaves. Bring the tea to a boil, then immediately pour the tea through a strainer into a heat-proof vessel to remove the tea leaves. Let the tea cool to room temperature.

Make the simple syrup: in a small pot over high heat, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and the syrup is clear.

Assemble the tea: divide the ice between 2 glasses, then add simple syrup, tea, and half-and-half.

Craving bubble tea but don’t want to keep spending so much money on it? Making your own is really easy — and much more customizable. You can buy tapioca pearls or boba from Walmart or Amazon (or your local Taiwanese store) then make the tea with a blend of your favorite black tea, sweetener, and half and half or non-dairy substitute. Just add ice and a wide straw, and you can have your favorite treat anytime!

In a medium pot over high heat, combine the water and tea bags. Bring to a boil, then remove the pan from the heat and let the tea cool to room temperature.

Bring a medium pot of water to boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, add the tapioca pearls and boil until softened, about 20 minutes.

Set the strainer with the pearls over a medium bowl. Add the brown sugar to the strainer and pour the hot water over.

Stir to dissolve the brown sugar. Soak the pearls in brown sugar syrup for 30 minutes, then store the bubbles and syrup separately until ready to serve.

Assemble the tea: Divide the pearls and ice between 2 glasses, then add the brown sugar syrup, tea, and half and half.

Stir with a wide-opening straw, then serve.

Homemade Bubble Tea (Boba Tea)

Boil water. Boil 2 ¾ cup of water. If using an electric kettle with a temperature setting, set the water to 208°F. Use filtered water if possible.

Steep tea in hot water for 5 minutes.Combine tea and 2 ½ cups hot water and steep. (We&#039;re saving the leftover ¼ cup of hot water for the brown sugar simple syrup.)

Strain tea leaves and let tea cool.Using a teapot with an infuser makes straining the tea leaves super easy.

MAKE TEA

Stir together hot water and dark brown sugar until sugar dissolves.Take the remaining ¼ cup hot water and stir in ¼ cup brown sugar.

MAKE BROWN SUGAR SIMPLE SYRUP

Boil water and add tapioca balls.Boil 4 cups of water on the stovetop then add tapioca balls. In a couple of minutes, they&#039;ll start floating to the surface. Cover the pot and cook on medium heat for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally. (Follow directions on your tapioca ball packaging if you&#039;re using a different brand than the one I&#039;m using.)

Combine tapioca balls and brown sugar simple syrup.Stir in dark brown simple syrup into the pot with the strained boba. Let cool slightly so it&#039;s warm but not boiling hot.

MAKE TAPIOCA BALLS

Lightly whip heavy cream and sugar. Cream froth is a lightly whipped heavy cream. Use a handheld milk frother and whip for 10 seconds. Cream should thicken slightly and should be pourable.

MAKE CREAM FROTH

Divide each component into two cups. Spoon tapioca balls in brown sugar simple syrup, add ice, then black tea, and top with cream froth. Stir together before drinking.

Best Homemade Bubble Tea

This beverage is like a cool breeze on a hot day! So refreshing and more than just a drink – it’s sippable dessert. 

This recipe will yield about 5 servings if portioned into 12 oz. glasses. Simple syrup, butterfly pea flower tea, and sweet coconut cream can all be made one day ahead and chilled, if desired. Boba pearls are best eaten the same day they are made.

Coconut Butterfly Pea Flower Boba Tea

coconut extract

8.8 oz. dried boba tapioca pearls quick cooking (5-minute type)

butterfly pea flower buds

coconut milk (13.5 oz.) (well shaken)

sweetened condensed milk

Make the simple syrup: Combine the water and sugar in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave for 2 minutes at 100% power. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. If granules remain, heat at full power in 1-minute intervals thereafter until the sugar is melted. Stir in the coconut extract. Transfer the bowl to the refrigerator to cool. If you don’t have a microwave, the simple syrup can be made in a saucepan on the stove top.

Simple syrup

Bring the water to a boil in a large pot over high heat. Add the boba and cook for 7 minutes, stirring gently until the pearls float to the surface of the water. Cover the pot with a lid and cook for 3 more minutes. Remove the pot from the heat source and let it stand for 5 minutes. Drain the boba with a colander, and rinse them in cool water for 20 seconds. Remove the simple syrup from the refrigerator and transfer the boba to the simple syrup. Let stand until completely cool, about 1 hour. Or, speed cooling in the refrigerator, about 30 minutes.

Boba

Place the buds in a large glass bowl or container and pour over the boiling water. Stir the buds around and then let steep uncovered for 10-15 minutes. When the liquid is deep sapphire blue, strain out the buds using a sieve and transfer the tea to the refrigerator to cool.

Butterfly pea flower tea

Combine the coconut milk and sweetened condensed milk in a large glass measure. Whisk until completely smooth.

Sweet coconut cream

Put as little or as much boba as you like in the bottom of a 12-ounce glass (I used about 1/4 cup per glass).  Pour sweet coconut cream about 1/3 of the way up the glass. Add crushed ice and fill to the top. Pour the butterfly pea flower tea over the ice to fill to the top of the glass. Serve immediately with bubble tea straws or with spoons. Stir together before enjoying. Assemble more glasses as needed. Store the boba tea in its syrup in the refrigerator. Also store the coconut cream and butterfly pea flower in the refrigerator until ready to use.

This delicious boba tea adds the delicate and sweet aroma of Jasmine, the health benefits of green tea and the chewy goodness of honey boba pearls.    Serve over ice with a reusable boba straw.

This Boba Tea Smoothie combines a creamy strawberry shake with chewy tapioca pearls for a delicious and refreshing bubble tea drink. It&#39;s ready in less than 10 minutes and uses 6 simple ingredients only.

Boba Tea Smoothie Recipe (Shake)

quick-cooking tapioca pearls

tbsp brown sugar syrup

coconut milk

strawberries

medium-small ripe bananas, peeled

tsp vanilla extract

In a small pot, add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil. Add the pearls and cook over medium heat following the packaging instructions. Then, drain and add to a small bowl. Coat with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar syrup.

To a high-speed blender, add coconut milk on the bottom, then add the banana, frozen strawberries, vanilla extract, and a small pinch of salt. Blend for 30 seconds to 1 minute until smooth and creamy.

Add the tapioca balls to the bottom of a large glass, followed by a few ice cubes (if desired). Pour smoothie on top and give everything a good stir. Serve immediately!

Try this taro milk tea for a vibrant purple boba featuring jasmine tea, taro root, milk, and tapioca pearls. It&#39;s surprisingly simple to make at home and a fraction of the price of store-bought!

Best Taro Milk Tea (With Boba)

cane sugar + ⅓ cup water

½ cups filtered water

loose-leaf jasmine green tea

taro powder*

full-fat coconut milk*

simple syrup

Bring the water for the tapioca pearls to boil in a medium-large saucepan. Once boiling, add in the tapioca pearls and lower the heat to just under medium.

Simmer for 15-30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Cook time will depend on your specific pearls (check the package for instructions).

In the meantime, prepare the simple syrup. Add the cane sugar and water to a small saucepan and whisk together. Bring it to a simmer for about 3-5 minutes, or until the sugar has fully dissolved. Remove the saucepan from the heat and reserve ¼ cup, then add the rest to a medium mixing bowl.

Strain the tapioca pearls through a fine-mesh strainer, rinsing them lightly. Transfer the pearls to the mixing bowl with the simple syrup and stir to combine. Set aside for ~30-40 minutes to soak.

While the tapioca pearls are soaking, bring water for the tea to a boil, then let it cool for a few minutes (it should be ~175-180°F). Brew the jasmine tea for 2-3 minutes, then remove the tea leaves and let the tea cool down to room temperature.

When the tapioca pearls and jasmine tea are ready, add the jasmine tea, taro powder, coconut milk, water, 3 tablespoons of simple syrup, and salt to a blender. Mix for 30-60 seconds until smooth. Taste and adjust the cane sugar to your liking.

Using a slotted spoon, transfer 3-4 tablespoons of tapioca pearls to a glass or cup. Fill it ½ - ¾ full with ice, then fill the rest with the taro mixture and give it a stir. Happy drinking!

Boba (aka bubble tea) is a pairs chewy tapioca pearls with sweet milk tea for a fun, refreshing drink that&#039;s easy to make at home.

How to Make Bubble Tea (Easy Boba Milk Tea Recipe)

filtered water

dark brown sugar (lightly packed)

simple syrup (see Notes)

half and half (or your milk of choice)

tapioca pearls (boba)

Boil 20 minutes. Add the water to a 5-quart pot, and bring to a boil. Once the water is boiling, add the tapioca pearls and boil for 20 minutes. They will float to the top fairly early in the cooking process; when this happens give them a stir. After boiling for 20 minutes, reserve 1 1/2 cups of the cooking liquid, and then rinse and drain the boba.

Soak 20 minutes. Put the boba back into the pot. Stir in the reserved 1 1/2 cups of cooking liquid and the brown sugar. Cover the pot and let the boba steep/soak for 20 minutes. Drain the boba except for 2 tablespoons of the liquid (this small amount of liquid will help prevent the pearls from sticking together).

For the Boba:

While the boba is cooking, make the tea. Add the water to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove the water from the heat and add the tea bags. Let the tea steep until it cools to room temperature, and then remove the tea bags.

For the Black Tea:

Divide the ice between 4 glasses, and then add 1/4 of the cooled tea, simple syrup, and half and half to each glass. Top each with 1/2 cup of boba. Serve immediately.
