Day 1: Put the seeds in a quart-size wide-mouth canning jar. Fill the jar up to the neck with lukewarm water. Cover the top of the jar with a double layer of cheesecloth that has been secured by the jar rim. Let the seeds soak overnight.

Day 2: In the morning, drain all of the water out of the jar through the cheesecloth (so that you do not lose the seeds). Put more water into the jar (through the cheesecloth is fine) and drain it well again. Let the drained and covered jar rest on its side in a sunny windowsill. (If it&#x27;s not very sunny, that&#x27;s OK too.)

In the evening, add water to the jar again and drain it well again. There is no need to remove the jar rim and cheesecloth until the sprouts are fully grown. Lay the well-drained jar back on its side on the windowsill.

Days 3-6: Each morning and evening, repeat the rinsing and draining procedure from day 2. After rinsing and thoroughly draining, the seeds should be placed back on the windowsill on their side. (Day 1 is the only day the seeds are soaked.)

The seeds will sprout little tails and then (after a few more days) a pair of green leaves. I let them grow until they completely fill the jar, as shown. You could stop the sprouting process earlier than this if desired.

Day 7: On the morning of day 7, the jar was well-packed with sprouts, as shown. I removed the jar rim and cheesecloth and popped the jar in the fridge. Ideally, they should be used within a day or two.

I yielded 4 cups of sprouts but your yield will vary depending on the growing conditions and how long you let them grow.

Sprouting Broccoli Seeds

Grow your own broccoli sprouts in 3 easy steps and about five days with no fancy equipment.

How to Grow Broccoli Sprouts (jar method)

tbsp organic broccoli sprouting seeds (specifically produced for sprouting/microgreens)

Soak the seeds. Pour the broccoli seeds into a jar and fill halfway with fresh cool water. Place to one side out of direct sunlight to soak for 6-12 hours (according to the packet instructions). This is the only time the broccoli seeds should sit in water. Sitting in water is a common cause of spoiling. If they spoil, discard them and begin again.

Rinse and drain regularly. Securing the lid with your fingers, empty the soak water from the jar, then fill halfway again with fresh cool water. Swirl the seeds around for a few moments before pouring the water away. Be sure to drain the soak water away thoroughly. Place the jar at an angle in a bowl to allow any excess water to escape. Rinse and drain twice daily until ready. I like to do this in the morning and the evening.

When ready. The sprouts are ready to harvest in about five days. They&#39;ll have grown 2-5 centimetres long and developed their first tiny green leaves. Place them somewhere bright for a few hours so the leaves can photosynthesise and turn green. Rinse and drain one last time. Remove them from the jar and set them out to dry on some paper towel before storing.

How to Grow Broccoli Sprouts

Quart-sized Mason jar (wide mouth)

Mesh sprouting lid (wide mouth)

tbsp organic broccoli sprout seeds (specifically marked for sprouts)

Soak the broccoli seeds. Add two tablespoons of broccoli seeds to the Mason jar. Fill the jar halfway with water, and put the mesh lid on. Let the jar stand at room temperature for 8 hours or overnight. I do this before I go to bed.

After 8 hours, dump out the water. Place the jar into a glass-lock container (no lid) or bowl with the opening facing down and store in a dark cabinet.

Sprout the broccoli seeds:Two or three times a day, rinse your and drain the sprouts. I usually do this in the morning and before I go to bed.

To rinse: Fill the jar with fresh water, swirl it around, and drain the water out through the mesh lid.&nbsp;Place the jack back in the cabinet with the opening facing down.

By the 4th or 5th day, your sprouts will be long enough. You’ll know it’s time because they’ve pretty much filled up the jar.

Place the jar in a sunny windowsill for a couple hours, and the sprouts will develop a nice green color.

Store the broccoli sprouts: Be sure your sprouts are dry before you refrigerate them. I like to lay down a kitchen towel with some paper towel on top of that. Then, I remove the sprouts from the jar with clean hands and spread them out for an hour or so until they dry.
