Butterfly pea&nbsp;lemonade is&nbsp;a refreshing, healthy, delicious, fun, and naturally colorful drink. It is also very simple to make as a perfect addition add-on to your backyard grilling! It's a perfect summer drink!

Butterfly Pea Lemonade

Garnishing options. Ginger, mint, Thai basil, kaffir lime leaves, rosemary, lemon, or lime slices.

Combine hot water, sugar, and dried&nbsp;flowers in a glass bowl or medium pot.&nbsp;Add hot water to the tea mixture and let it steep for 15 minutes. Use a whisk to stir and make sure the sugar is dissolved.&nbsp;

Strain the tea mixture over the sink and place the tea in a vase, let cool and refrigerate for 30-60 minutes.

Prepare your glasses with ice cubes and garnish options. Pour the cold blue tea over your glasses and leave the top 2-3 inches at the top for lemon or lime juice or lemonade.&nbsp;

Pour 1-2 tablespoon(per serving) of lime or lemon juice over the blue tea and watch the magic happens! The tea will turn all shades of pink, purple, and magenta, rather hypnotizing to watch! Taste the tea and adjust the flavor with more lemon or lime juice. Or you can use store-bought lemonade too for a less sour lemonade. The leftover tea will keep in the fridge for up to 4 days.

This Butterfly Pea Flower Cocktail combines color changing magic blue tea with mojito inspired ingredients like fresh mint, lime and rum.

Color Changing Butterfly Pea Flower Cocktail

butterfly pea flowers (or 4 butterfly pea tea bags)

mint leaves (or 2 spearmint tea bags)

water

sweet butterfly pea tea (chilled)

white rum

lime juice

lime wheels (optional, to garnish)

mint (optional, to garnish)

Steep

Bring water to boil. Meanwhile, place mint leaves and butterfly pea flowers in large bowl with sugar. When boiling remove water from heat and pour over the tea mixture in the bowl. Steep butterfly pea tea for 5 minutes. 

Strain

Meanwhile place ice in a large pitcher and after the tea is done steeping, strain the sweet blue tea concentrate over the ice to cool quickly. Store refrigerated until ready to use.

Pour

When ready to serve pour sweet blue butterfly pea tea over ice in tall glass, leaving about an inch of room on the top.

Then add a float of lime juice to the top of the glass without stirring the lime juice into the spiked tea.

Garnish

Garnish with lime wheels and/or fresh mint as desired and serve with a long spoon or a straw.

Stir

Stir to combine before enjoying to watch the colors change.
