The classic recipe on the back of the Baker's Chocolate Bar - BEFORE the One Bowl Recipe! Results in perfect fudgy-cakey brownies with crispy corners.

The Original Baker's Chocolate Brownie Recipe

oz (1 box) unsweetened chocolate

butter

flour

tsp baking powder

tsp salt

eggs

sugar

vanilla

Preheat oven to 350.

Grease a 9×13″ pan.

Make sure oven rack is in the middle of the oven.

In small microwave safe bowl, melt butter and chocolate in microwave (or over double boiler). Allow to cool slightly.

Measure flour, salt, and baking powder into another small bowl.

In larger mixing bowl, beat eggs thoroughly. A whisk is fine.

Gradually add sugar.

Blend chocolate mixture and vanilla into egg/sugar mixture.

Add flour mixture, stir well.

Spread in the greased 9×13″ pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Cool and cut into 24 squares.

unsalted butter (room temperature)

vanilla extract

walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl and beat with a hand mixer (or in the bowl of a stand mixer) until just combined.

Transfer batter to a greased 8" square baking dish.

Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies comes out clean.

Cool to room temperature and slice into 36 mini brownies.

I loved these but agree with others that the batter was super stiff. Will use my Kitchen Aid mixer next time.  Also considering using melted butter instead of softened.

This is my 2nd time trying this recipe. Easy and really good. I doubled it the 2nd and gave half to my nieces and nephew. Only addition was 1 tsp of baking powder because I doubled it.

This is my 2nd time making them. but I added 1/4 tsp baking powder  the 2nd time. Really good!

I measured all the ingredients and followed the recipe... complete FLOP! They didn’t even rise at all. Is there an ingredient missing? Baking powder maybe? 
Threw them out.

Really yummy and cakey, but came out pretty salty - may of just been the salt I used but would reccomend half the amount of salt, or maybe even just a pinch. Otherwise perfect!

Cakey Brownie Recipe from Scratch

granulated sugar (you can reduce to 1 ¼ cup if desired)

unsalted butter

baking powder

baking soda

milk

Preheat the oven to 350° F. Grease and line a 9 X 13 pan with spray oil and parchment paper and set aside.

In a saucepan, heat the sugar, butter, and cocoa powder over medium heat. Using a wooden spoon or spatula, stir the mixture intermittently (you’ll heat the mixture until the butter melts). Remove from heat.

 While the butter mixture is melting, in a medium mixing bowl add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Using a whisk, stir to combine.

Once the butter melts, transfer the mixture to a large bowl. Add in the eggs and vanilla. Using a wooden spoon, spatula, or whisk, stir gently and incorporate the eggs until the eggs have combined with the butter/chocolate mixture.

Add a small amount of the flour mixture to the butter/chocolate mixture, stir to combine using a whisk, wooden spoon, or spatula, then add a small amount of the milk. Stirring to combine the ingredients. Repeat this process until all of the ingredients are well incorporated.

Then add the chocolate chips to the batter. Using a wooden spoon or a spatula, fold them in.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake at 350°F for about 35 minutes or until a wooden pick comes out clean in the center.

Once done, remove from the oven and cool for 20 minutes in the pan before cutting into the brownies.

I made these brownies and they were fabulous! I live at 5000 feet so some adjustments are necessary. Today, I made a dbl batch! I’m eager to see how they turn out, they’re in the oven now.
High altitude adjustments;
Decrease levening by half
Increase flour 1 T per cup
Reduce sugar 1 T per cup
Add an extra egg
Increase oven temp to 360F

These brownies are just the texture I was looking for. Rich, but not chewy and not too cakey or  dry either.  Great recipe. I don’t like box brownies at all. This is really good.

Made this recipe exactly as described though I only had mini chocolate chips, next time I will try full size chocolate chips.  Turned out great, exactly as pictured.  Fills the 9x13 pan. Everyone loved the brownies.

Absolutely, positively, the best from scratch brownie recipe. Perfect, followed the recipe to the letter and they turned out perfectly. My family loved them. Getting rid of all the brownie recipes I’ve saved. I made them 3 times and I can count on them turning out the same every time. It’s a 10 star recipe!

Made this for my husbands poker night. I added exspresso powder.  They were delicious and disappeared fast

These are great!  The perfect cake brownie I was looking for.  I was a bit worried that my melted chocolate/ butter/ sugar seemed to separate.  But they turned out perfect!
