Try an eerie twist on the traditional candy apple for a delicious Halloween treat.

"Poison" Candy Apples

corn syrup

black gel paste food coloring

Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Place on a baking sheet and poke firmly with dowels. Line a second baking sheet with buttered parchment paper, and set aside.

Place a candy thermometer in a medium saucepan and add sugar, 3/4 cups water, and corn syrup. Place over medium heat; whisk until sugar is dissolved. Let the temperature rise without stirring until it reaches the hard-crack mark at 310 degrees F. Remove pan from heat. Carefully remove thermometer, and add food coloring.

Swirl pan to mix in the color completely. Swipe and twirl the apple through the candy, shake off excess, and place on buttered baking sheet. Repeat with remaining apples.

Here&#039;s how you can take Jolly Rancher hard candies and make gorgeous candy apples.

Easy Sparkly Candy Apples

Jolly Rancher candies (1,3 pound bag)

Granny Smith apples (small to medium)

tsp. edible glitter

Bring 3 quarts of water to a boil. Carefully lower an apple in the boiling water, count 3 seconds and remove to a towel to allow to dry. Repeat for remaining apples.

Use another towel to thorough dry the apples. Water and wax cause the candy coating to bubble so make sure the apples are both clean and dry.

Push a skewer into the top of each apple.

Removing  Apple Wax

Preheat oven to 350˚F/177˚C.

Sort the candies into the different colors and remove the wrappers. 50 candies coat ~3 small/medium apples. If you don&#39;t have enough of each color, you can combine pink and red, and green and blue.

Place ~50 unwrapped candies into a deep pan or a saucepan that has an oven-proof handle. Place into the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the candies are completely melted.

Use an oven mitt and place the melted candy on a heat-proof surface.

Add the glitter and stir to combine. Return the pan to the oven to re-melt the candy.

Tilt the pan so that the candy pools at the bottom. Hold the apple by the skewer and dip it into the melted candy. Slowly twirl the stick to coat the apple. Lift the apple straight up to allow the excess candy to drip off.

Place the apple on a silicone baking sheet or a parchment lined baking pan.

The candy will cook in a few minutes and are best served soon after making.

✨Glittery Candy Apples Made Out of JOLLY RANCHERS

Caramel apples are a perfect fall treat and these are especially exciting being rolled in a variety of candy.  The caramel is so full-flavored and only requires patience and stirring until it reaches the right temperature to swirl the apples.

Candy Coated Caramel Apples

Unsalted Butter

Brown Sugar

Light Corn Syrup

Salt

can Sweetened Condensed Milk

Vanilla Extract

popsicle sticks ((or sturdy lollipop sticks))

Candy for rolling apples

Candy thermometer

Remove the apple stems and insert the sticks into the tops of the apples.  NOTE: Be sure the apple is sturdy on the stick.

Add the candy and/or nuts to individual medium-size bowls to allow plenty of room to dip and roll the caramel apples.

Line a baking sheet with wax paper and spray with non-stick spray (for the dipped apples).

Preparation

In a large saucepan over medium heat combine the butter, brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Stir together and allow to come to a boil.

Equip the pan with a candy thermometer.

Stir in the condensed milk and allow the mixture to keep cooking until it the mixture reaches 248 degrees (the ‘firm ball’ stage).  Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Making the Caramel

Holding an apple by the stick, inset the apple into the hot caramel and twirl the apple to fully coat.

Hold apple above the saucepan allowing excess caramel to drip back into the pan. Note: tipping the saucepan at a 45 degree angle may assist quick coating of the apples as well.

Immediately place the dipped apple into one of the candy or nut bowls, rotating the apple around to cover the surfaces desired.

Place the coated apple on the lined baking sheet to harden.

Repeat until all the apples are coated. TIP: if the caramel begin to set making dipping the apple difficult, allow the pan of caramel to sit over low heat for a few minutes to liquefy it again.

Coating the Apples

Ideally the apples would be eaten after making them however they may be wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.

When eating them out of the refrigerator, allow 45 minutes to 1 hour for the apples to warm up before eating (the caramel is very hard out of the refrigerator).  The apples can be eat on the stick or cut into segments.

Easy Candy Apple Recipe

Insert a stick into the stem end of the apple pushing about halfway through and set aside.&nbsp;

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and coat generously with cooking spray.

In a large saucepan over high heat, stir together the sugar, syrup and water. Bring the mixture to a boil and turn the heat to medium. Stir in the food coloring. Insert a candy thermometer and continue to boil until the mixture reaches Hard Crack stage (from 300-310 degrees), approximately 15-20 minutes.&nbsp;

Remove the sugar mixture from the heat and allow to rest for a few minutes before quickly dipping the apples in the sugar mixture turning to coat. The rest allows the bubbles to subside a bit so you don&#39;t have bubbles in your candy coating.

Transfer to the baking sheet to cool completely.
