Homemade Philly Cheesesteaks

extra-virgin olive oil, divided

green peppers, thinly sliced

red peppers, thinly sliced

yellow onion, sliced

Kosher salt

lb. sirloin steak, thinly sliced

black pepper

What kind of cheese belongs on a cheeseteak?

Really like this recipe, as it can be about the hoagie that makes it a great sandwich.  In making it for a group I used a local garlic bread that was sliced lengthwise, toasted it, filled the whole loaf with meat onions peppers and cheese and cut it in 3 inch pieces.

So this is the 4th time we’ve made this recipe as a family in the past month. My 17 year old keeps wonderin when we’re having Phillys again. This is a great recipe. We even got some extra Christmas rib eye roast and cut some of it up to make special christmas phillys.

Looks delicious! Just drop the Philly.  This is not a Philly cheesesteak.

This sandwich looks good but I wouldn't call it a philly cheese steak. Philly cheese steaks have thinly sliced rib eye - not strips. It's all about how the meat is sliced. Also, the cheese is mixed in with the meat - not just thrown on top.

Easy and Delicious ! We used chicken and it was still FIRE. The hoagie is also essential to completing the experience. Great recipe

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

lb beef

garlic powder

butter

yellow onion, diced

green bell pepper,

ketchup

Worcestershire sauce

cornstarch

beef broth

oz provolone cheese

hamburger buns

salt and black pepper,

Add ground beef, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, to a large skillet and cook until browned. Remove beef to a plate and set aside.

Add butter, onions, and peppers to the skillet and brown until softened, 4-5 minutes.

Return beef to skillet and stir in ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. Mix cornstarch into a 2 tablespoons of the beef broth and add to pan. Stir in rest of beef broth.

Let simmer until most liquid has absorbed and adjust seasoning as needed.

Remove from heat, add provolone cheese and serve on toasted hamburger buns.
