Easy Chinese Broccoli stir fry (gai lan) with garlicky sauce is Vegan, Paleo, Whole30, Keto, and low carb. A great way to add dark leafy greens to your meal.

Easy Chinese Broccoli Stir-Fry with Garlic Sauce

tbsp cooking fat (, avocado oil

tsp grated garlic cloves

¼ + ¼ tsp coarse salt

sesame oil (, garnish)

tbsp coconut aminos (, garnish)

Prep

Cut off the Chinese broccoli bottom stems (about 1-inch) away and discard. Make another cut to separate stems from leafy parts. The stem parts should be roughly about 2 to 2-½ inch length. Slice the stems in diagonal shape. If desired, cut the leafy parts in half or leave them as a whole. Wash and rinse the stems and leafy parts separately. Set them aside to drain in separate bowls.

Saute

In a well heated large skillet (or wok), add 2 tbsp cooking fat. Statue the stems over medium-high heat until they turn bright green color (about 2 minutes). Season with ¼ tsp coarse salt. Add grated garlic and use a wooden spoon to break and coat the garlic over the vegetables.

Add leafy parts. Quickly toss and scoop the stems and garlic over the leaves. Cover with a lid. Lower the heat to medium. Cook for about 3 minutes until the leaves turn dark green color. Season with ¼ tsp coarse salt. Give a quick toss. Off heat, transfer to a large plate.

Season

Season with toasted sesame oil and coconut aminos. Serve hot or cold.

Learn how to make Asian broccoli with garlic sauce &amp; crispy bacon. flavourful, healthy, and budget-friendly!

bacon 2 strips (cut into small pieces, more or less to your liking)

garlic (finely chopped)

soy sauce

oyster sauce

cornstarch

water

Boiling broccoli: Add a pinch of salt and a splash of olive oil to the boiling water. Boil the broccoli for approximately 3-5 minutes, then drain.

Frying Bacon: Toss bacon pieces into the frying pan with oil and cook until they become crisp and golden brown. Set aside.

Preparing garlic sauce: Add garlic to the remaining oil and cook until golden brown.While frying the garlic, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and water to make the sauce.Stir the sauce well and pour it into the frying pan. Stir for about 10 seconds.

Adding broccoli and bacon: Toss in the broccoli, making sure it’s thoroughly coated with the garlic sauce. Add the bacon, and it’s ready to serve.

Perfectly tender-crisp Chinese Broccoli (Gai Lan) is made with simple ingredients including fresh garlic and soy sauce. Ready in under 15 minutes, enjoy this flavorful vegan side dish with all your favorite chicken, beef, or pork recipes.

canola oil ((or other vegetable oil))

2-6 Thai chilis ((optional), substitute with 1-2 tsp crushed red chili flakes)

garlic (minced)

sesame oil

sesame seeds (to garnish)

Prepare the Chinese broccoli for cooking. Trim 1-inch from the ends of each stalk and discard. Slice any especially thick stalks in half. Rinse under cold running water and gently shake out excess water. Set aside to dry.

Heat the olive oil in a large wok or skillet set over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the Thai chilis (whole, chopped, or none at all depending on your own personal heat preference). Allow the chilis to cook in the oil for 5-10 seconds before adding the minced garlic. Stirring continuously, cook the garlic for 30 seconds, or until fragrant (reduce heat if necessary to prevent the garlic from burning).

Add the soy sauce and the Chinese broccoli to your wok or skillet. Stir-fry the Chinese broccoli in the oil and soy sauce, mixing continuously and thoroughly to coat. Continue to mix, coat, and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until stalks are tender (cover with a lid if you have one). Drizzle with sesame oil, if using, and mix thoroughly to combine.

Remove to a clean plate. Garnish with sesame seeds, if desired.
