Kids and adults will love these cookie dough filled chocolate Easter eggs. The edible cookie dough has heat-treated flour and it's eggless so it’s safe to eat!

Cookie Dough Filled Easter Eggs

¼ cups (175 grams) all-purpose flour, heat treated

(113 grams) unsalted butter, softened

(95 grams) granulated sugar

(73 grams) light brown sugar, packed

¼ teaspoon salt

(45 milliliters) milk

(15 milliliters) vanilla extract

bags (10 ounces) Ghirardelli chocolate melting wafers

Sprinkles

Prepare the flour

Pre-heat the oven to 350°F.  Bake the flour on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper at for approximately 10 minutes, or until the temperature of the flour reaches 160°F . Stir the flour halfway through and allow the flour to cool completely. Sift the flour through a fine mesh sieve.

Combine butter and sugar

Soften the butter in the microwave for 15-20 seconds. In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter, granulated and brown sugar and beat until creamy.

Add remaining ingredients

Then add the heat-treated flour, salt, vanilla extract and 1 tablespoons of milk. Beat together until the dough starts to form. Add additional milk as needed until desired consistency. Mix in the chocolate chips. Set aside.

Prepare the cooking dough:

Melt the chocolate

Melt half of the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl at 50% power in 30 second intervals; stir after each interval and continue until chocolate is melted. Reduce microwave time as needed so the chocolate does not burn.

Fill the mold

Put a spoonful of melted chocolate in each cavity and swirl it around to coat the outside. If it’s thin, add additional chocolate then refrigerate for 15 minutes.

Add the cookie dough

Gently press 2 ½ &#8211; 3 tablespoons (approximately the size of a large cookie scoop) of cookie dough in each cavity.

Cover with chocolate

Add another spoonful of chocolate and smooth over the top with an offset spatula or knife. All the chocolate to see for 15 minutes or so either at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

Remove the eggs

Gently remove the eggs from the mold and trim away excess chocolate. Garnish with additional chocolate drizzle and sprinkles.

You can use either a double boiler or place a bowl over a pot of simmering water (make sure the bowl does not touch the water).&nbsp;&nbsp;Using chopped chocolate (use a good quality chocolate)  reserve a quarter of the amount of chocolate in a separate bowl to add later.&nbsp;&nbsp;Use a silicone spatula and a good thermometer, and that is all you need. Bring the water in your saucepan to a simmer.&nbsp;&nbsp;Continuously stir the chocolate until it is melted smoothly.

Place your theremometer in the chocolate and bring it to –118°F (48°C) for Dark Chocolate.112°F (45°C) for Milk Chocolate.Remove the bowl of chocolate from the saucepan and carefully wipe the steam from bottom of the bowl.  Do not let even one drop of water fall into the chocolate because it will cause the chocolate to seize and then your chocolate is completely ruined!   So please be careful!

Then add the reserved chocolate to the melted chocolate this will help bring down the temperature of the chocolate.&nbsp;&nbsp;Stir until smooth. Keep stirring until the temperature of the chocolate reaches –89-90°F (32°C) for Dark Chocolate86-88°F (30°C) for Milk Chocolate

If you need to, you can place your bowl of chocolate into another bowl of cool water to help speed up this process.&nbsp;&nbsp;If the temperature of your chocolate goes too low, then you can slowly reheat it over the pot of simmering water until it reaches its right temperature –89-90oF (32C) for Dark Chocolate86-88oF (30C) for Milk Chocolate / White Chocolate

Now the chocolate is ready to use, pour the chocolate into the egg molds, swirl or use a pastry brush to cover the surface.&nbsp; Let dry and harden in a&nbsp; cool spot, then coat the same way with the white chocolate, let sit until completely dry.

Fill eggs with desired treats, smarties, foil eggs etc.&nbsp; Seal shut with a little melted chocolate.&nbsp; Enjoy.

Ooo!  I loved learning about tempering chocolate and why we should do it!  Those eggs are delightful.

I've never tried tempering chocolate before, but I really need to, because using real, good quality chocolate is so wonderful!  I love this tutorial, and will be making my girls their own homemade kinder eggs, since we can't buy them here in the states.  Roll eyes.
