Crispy Crab Bites (Cheesecake Factory Copycat)

mayonnaise

dijon mustard

Old Bay Seasoning

lemon juice

crabmeat

panko breadcrumbs

garlic

kosher salt

breadcrumbs

vegetable oil (for frying)

In a large bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, Old Bay seasoning, and lemon juice until well combined.

Fold in the lump crabmeat and panko breadcrumbs, being careful not to break up the crabmeat too much. Gently mix until evenly distributed.

Roll 1 ½ tablespoon-sized balls of the crab mixture and place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the crab balls into the freezer to set and allow the flavors to meld for about 10 minutes.

While the crab balls are in the freezer, prepare the mustard sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, granulated garlic, lemon juice, and a pinch of kosher salt. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

Once the crab balls have set for at least 10 minutes, remove them from the freezer. Roll each crab ball in the fine breadcrumbs, reshaping if necessary. Place the breaded crab balls back onto the baking sheet and return them to the freezer for another 10 minutes.

While the breaded crab balls are in the freezer, heat vegetable oil in a deep pan suitable for frying to 365°F (185°C).

Fry the crab balls in batches of 5 or 6 at a time, carefully placing them into the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to transfer the fried crab bites to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve the crab bites with the mustard sauce on the side for dipping. Enjoy!

Crab Bites Appetizer Recipe (Baked Crab Cake Balls)

Mayonnaise (thick and creamy is better)

Spicy brown mustard (or Dijon mustard)

egg (whisked)

Old Bay seasoning

Onion (finely diced)

Celery (finely diced)

Saltine crackers (crushed

crab meat (lump, jumbo lump, or claw)

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Combine mayonnaise, mustard, egg, and Old Bay Seasoning in a mixing bowl.

Add diced onion, celery, and crushed saltines to the bowl with the wet ingredients and mix to incorporate.

Add crab meat to the bowl, breaking up large lumps of crabmeat and removing any stray shell pieces. Fold the crab meat into the cracker mixture just until combined. I like to leave some small clumps of crab so it&#39;s obvious how much crab is in these delicious little balls.

Scoop crab mixture into tablespoon-sized portions, tightly compress to form small, bite-sized balls, and place them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. We used a cookie scoop to portion and then used our hands to firm them up.

Bake uncovered for approximately 25 minutes or until the crab bites are golden brown. Turn halfway through the baking process, if possible, so that all sides are brown.

Excellent recipe. Lifelong Marylander here so I'm selective about endorsing  crab *foods*! I will follow the recipe exactly the next time I make these crab balls.  I used Ritz crackers, I think the Saltines would be even better.  I was too conservative with the Old Bay, onion, and celery, I should have used the entire amount(s) the recipe calls for. My first time making them (for dinner guests at that!) and they all raved about them.  Looking forward to eating the extra ones I froze (uncooked)!

Planning to have this for Mother's Day brunch so I did a trial run. Very impressed with how easy they were to make. Have some in the freezer so fingers crossed that it works. I would have never thought to use saltines, but they were perfect and did not taste just like breading. Thanks
