Meat and potatoes come together with savory curry powder in this super simple weeknight curried ground beef skillet.

Curried Ground Beef with Peas and Potatoes

russet potato (¾ lb.) (0.63)

Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and cooking oil to a large deep skillet. Sauté the garlic and ginger over medium heat for 1-2 minutes. Add the curry powder, turmeric, and crushed red pepper and sauté for one minute more.

Add the ground beef to the skillet with the spices and sauté until the beef is cooked through.

While the beef is cooking, peel and cube the potato into ½-inch pieces.

Add the cubed potato and beef broth to the skillet. Stir to combine with the ground beef. Place a lid on the skillet and turn the heat up to medium-high. Allow the broth to come up to a boil.

Once the broth reaches a boil, turn the heat down to medium-low and allow it to continue to simmer for 10 minutes with the lid in place (stir occasionally). After ten minutes, the potatoes should be tender. Remove the lid and simmer for a few more minutes, or until most of the broth is evaporated.

Finally, stir the frozen peas into the beef and potato mixture and heat through. Give the curry beef a taste and add salt to taste (about ½ tsp). Top with sliced green onions and serve hot.

An authentic Indian spiced ground (minced) beef recipe known as Qeema (or keema or kheema). This is a gem of a recipe because it tastes incredible but unlike many Indian dishes, there are no hard-to-find spices in the ingredients. And it&#039;s super fast - on the table in 20 minutes! Qeema Indian Curried Beef

tbsp oil ((any other than olive oil) (Note 1))

salt ((I use table salt))

tsp garam masala ((Note 3))

cumin powder

coriander powder

turmeric powder

tsp red chili flakes

Cilantro/coriander leaves

Heat oil in a skillet over high heat. Add ginger and garlic and saute for 1 minute until fragrant - don't let it burn! Add onion and cook for 1 minute until it is starting to turn translucent.

Add beef and cook, breaking it up as you go, until it changes from pink to light brown. Add remaining ingredients EXCEPT water. Cook until the beef is cooked through - about 2 to 3 minutes.

Add water, give it a stir, then put the lid on. Turn heat down to medium and let it simmer for 10 minutes or until most of the water has evaporated.

Garnish with red chilli flakes and cilantro/coriander leaves. Serve with basmati rice or plain white rice - and/or flatbreads!

Slow-cooked, meltingly tender beef and a sprinkling of crunchy peanuts to finish - it's curry heaven

Beef massaman curry

unsalted peanuts

coconut milk

tbsp massaman curry paste

stewing beef steak,

waxy potatoes,

onion,

kaffir lime leaves

cinnamon

tamarind paste

tbsp palm or soft light brown sugar

tbsp fish sauce

jasmine rice, to serve

Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6, then roast the peanuts on a baking tray for 5 mins until golden brown. When cool enough to handle, roughly chop. Reduce oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4.

Heat 2 tbsp coconut milk (use the cream on top if there is any) in a large casserole dish with a lid. Add the curry paste and fry for 1 min, then stir in the beef and fry until well coated and sealed.

Stir in the rest of the coconut with half a can of water, the potatoes, onion, lime leaves, cinnamon, tamarind, sugar, fish sauce and most of the peanuts. Bring to a simmer, then cover and cook for 2 hrs in the oven until the beef is tender.

Sprinkle with sliced chilli and the remaining peanuts, then serve straight from the dish with jasmine rice.
