Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large bowl, combine flour and baking soda.

In a separate bowl mix together vegetable oil, peanut butter, applesauce and pumpkin puree. Once combined, mix in egg and mix until combined.

Pour mixture into an 8" round pan (a square pan can also be used) that has been greased with oil.

Preheat your oven to 300F (150C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Add the oats to a food processor and grind until they reach a fine powder. (If you do not have a food processor, see the recipe notes for other options). Add the bananas and peanut butter and blend until a sticky dough is formed.

Remove from the food processor and roll out on a lightly floured surface. (Use whole wheat flour, more ground oats, or another dog-safe flour that you have on hand). I used a heart cookie cutter to cut out the treats but you could use any cookie cutter, or just cut them into squares with a knife or pizza cutter.

Lay the treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the treats are puffed up a bit, dry and dark brown on the bottoms, (they will still feel soft when first removed from the oven). The treats will get a bit more firm once they are cool but will still be a slightly softer dog treat. Let cool before giving one to your pup. Store in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or I like to store them in my freezer which makes them firmer and makes them stay fresh a long time.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a large sheet pan with parchment paper.

Mix the applesauce, creamy peanut butter, and egg together in a medium sized bowl using a hand mixer or stand mixer.

Divide the mixture as evenly as possible into three medium sized mixing bowls (a little more than ⅓ cup per bowl).

Add all-natural red food coloring to one bowl, and all-natural green food coloring to another bowl, optional. Leave the last bowl uncolored.

Mix the food coloring into each wet mixture until completely combined. Keep in mind that the color will dilute when the flour mixture is added, so add a little more food coloring than you think it will need.

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and rolled oats and stir until well mixed.

Divide the flour mixture into three (1 cup each) and add to each of the three bowls.

Use a hand or stand mixer to stir the flour into each wet mixture until just combined.

The mixture should create a slightly dry but malleable dough. If it is too dry, add more applesauce, ½ Tablespoon at a time. If it is too wet, add more flour, 1 teaspoon at a time. Mix these add-ins with your hands if possible in order to avoid overmixing the flour.

Roll the three different colored doughs (or single colored dough) onto a lightly floured surface using a rolling pin until the dough is ¼ inch in thickness.

Use Christmas shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookie shapes--rerolling the dough until all the dough is used. Place the cookies on the sheet pan.

Bake in the oven for 13-18 minutes or until they turn golden brown. You can vary the bake times depending on preference. For a softer treat, cook for less time.

Let cool completely before serving as treats to your precious canines.

In a large bowl, mix together eggs, cinnamon, pumpkin, flour, salt and peanut butter. This mixture will become stiff, dry and crumbly really quickly when first     mixing.

Add a little bit of water to help moisten the ingredients, then you will be able to work and knead the dough. Only add a tablespoon or so as you go. You want the dough to end up being a dry and thick consistency.

Flour your countertop and roll the dough out to be about a ½ inch thick. Use your cookie cutters to cut out individual treats and place on a greased baking sheet. You don’t need to separate them a ton, they don’t rise much.

You will have left over dough after cutting out the first batch of treats. Quickly knead and roll out the dough left over dough to make even more!

Bake for about 35 minutes or until hard. Serve to your fur-baby! They will be living their best doggy life!
