easy goulash recipe

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">My easy American Goulash recipe will be a hit with the whole family! This one pot dish is made with fridge and pantry staples and it comes together in just 30 minutes.</span></p>

American Goulash

1lb lean ground beef

shallot yellow onion, chopped

garlic, pressed

shakes gluten free worcestershire sauce (~1/2 Tablespoon)

pepper

broth

tomato sauce

can petite diced tomatoes

Italian seasoning

bay leaf

gluten free elbow noodles

Heat a large skillet or Dutch Oven over medium-high heat. Add beef, shallot or onion, and garlic then break beef up with a wooden spoon. Season with worcestershire sauce, a dash of homemade seasoned salt, and pepper, then brown.

Add remaining teaspoon seasoned salt, broth, tomato products, Italian seasoning, and bay leaf then turn heat up to bring to a bubble. Turn heat down to medium/medium-low then gently simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add elbow noodles then continue to simmer, stirring often, until noodles are tender, 12-14 minutes, turning the heat down slightly near the end to maintain a very gentle simmer. Remove bay leaf then taste and add additional seasoned salt and/or pepper if desired. Serve.

Heat olive oil in a large heavy bottomed pot over medium high heat. Add onion and bell pepper, sauté until they start to get soft. Add garlic and cook 1 minute.

Add in ground beef and break it up with a wooden spoon. Cook, stirring from time to time, until it is no longer pink. Add Italian seasoning, paprika, red chili flakes, salt and pepper. Cook 1-2 minutes.

Vegan Goulash

White Onions (diced)

Garlic (minced)

Organic Tomato Sauce

Organic Fire Roasted Tomatoes

Organic Vegetable Broth

Red Pepper (diced)

Tablespoon Hungarian paprika

soy sauce (Liquid Aminos, or Tamari)

Tablespoon Vegan Worcestershire Sauce

Tablespoons Italian Seasoning

Garlic Powder

whole Bay Leaves

Whole Grain Elbow Macaroni (or Gluten-Free Elbow Macaroni)

Basil, thyme, parsley

In a large pot, saute onions and garlic over medium heat until the onions are translucent.

Add mushrooms and cooked lentils (if using soy crumbles, add instead of the lentils and mushrooms)

Stir and cook another 7 minutes.

Add a little vegetable broth if the mixture sticks to the bottom of the pan, but the moisture from the mushrooms, onions, and peppers should provide ample water.

Add  the red bell peppers, tomato sauce, canned roasted diced tomatoes, vegetable broth.

Add soy sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, and the two bay leaves, and stir.

Make sure the mixture is boiling BEFORE you add the noodles

Add elbow macaroni and stir.

Cover and reduce heat to simmer.

Cook covered for 20 minutes.

Check noodles to see if they are done. Depending on the noodles, you may need to adjust the time to 5-7 more minutes.

Saute Vegetables:

If you use gluten-free noodles, they often absorb more fluid than noodles with gluten. Because of this, you want to be sure to keep some additional vegetable broth available.

While cooking the 20 minutes covered, make sure you add fluid if necessary if the noodles absorb too much liquid.

Cooking the noodles in a separate pan and rinsing them before adding them to the pan at the last minute of cooking is also an option.

I found this blog by chance trying to find a vegan goulash. I made this recipe today….I had doubled it. I always over make amount of food needed. Anyway. It filled my pot to rim. lol. It’s so delish that we are grateful for leftovers!

Loved it!  Flavours were great!  Only adjustment I made was more garlic (I LOVE garlic) &amp; a bit of sugar to cut the acidity of the tomatoes.  Sooo good!

Love this dish!  Made it 3 times so far.  I ordered the Hungarian paprika from Amazon which gave it a more robust flavor.  Also used smoked paprika as well.  This recipe is a winner for us!

This recipe is outstanding!  I don't even like lentils, but the flavor of this dish is so good!  I did make one variation since I only had a 14 ounce can of tomatoes. I added a small can of tomato paste.  I used a rice quinoa pasta and it worked out great.

I will be making this dish again.

What a spectacular recipe! As a vegan, married to a man whose nickname is Steak, I really appreciate how hearty and filling this goulash is. And the flavors… OMG sheer perfection!
