It may seem like a challenge, but good gravy that's also keto-friendly is achievable. Here's how to make it with xanthan gum and which keto Thanksgiving recipes to use it on.

I can’t rate the exact recipe since I only had 1/4 cup pan drippings and changed the broth to chicken as the drippings were from roasted chicken. I also added 1/8 tsp more of the xanthan per another review. It tasted very good! Even my picky adult daughter asked me to always make it this way. 
A tip for the XANTHAN GUM: Mix it with the Worcester, garlic, salt, pepper and add some of the hot drippings from the pan. (Use a glass measuring cup and just scoop the liquid)  Whisk immediately. Continue adding more hot liquid. It’ll become paste. When it’s no longer clumpy add to the pan and continue to whisk away.

This recipe was excellent! The only modification was I cut the recipe in half, used bacon drippings, and added a little garlic salt/parsley mix. Yummy! In the end, I did also add another shake of xanthem gum to get the thickness right. As a gravy lover, this recipe will be a staple.

Had turkey and keto gravy tonight and I am happy 😊  I thought I was running out of good ideas but I keep finding more substitutions and being satisfied with my keto meal's.

This gravy is excellent! I added 1/8 tsp more xanthan gum to thicken it a little which made the texture perfect! Taste was great with the pan drippings I had. Which had roasted garlic seasoning in it.

Add this simple onion gravy recipe to your repertoire. It's the perfect accompaniment to sausages and roasts with the deep flavours of beef stock, red wine and herbs

Easy onion gravy

olive oil

bay leaf

tsp sugar

tbsp flour

red wine

tsp red wine vinegar

beef stock (or vegetable stock)

Melt the butter with the olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat, add the bay leaf and thyme and cook for a min to infuse the flavours of the herbs. Add the onions and coat well in the butter and oil, sprinkle over the sugar and a big pinch of salt and slowly cook the onions down for 45-50 mins, stirring occasionally until sticky and caramelised.

Add the flour and stir well, coating all of the onions. Cook for a min then add the wine and vinegar, turn up the heat and reduce by half, so about 2 mins, whisking a little to ensure the flour doesn’t lump at all. Pour in the stock, bring to the boil and cook for 6-8 mins, until the gravy is thick enough to coat the back of spoon. If you cook it a bit too much and it gets too thick, add a splash of water. Season well and serve.

This small-batch quick and easy gravy recipe can be made in about 5 minutes with just 4 ingredients. 

Quick and Easy Gravy Recipe

(1 ounces) butter

(15 grams) all-purpose flour

milk (any percentage*)

chicken broth

Salt and pepper

In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute until flour starts to turn golden.

Whisk in milk and broth, beating out any lumps as they form. Continue to cook, whisking constantly, until mixture begins to bubble and thickens to the consistency of thin gravy (mixture will thicken further as it cools), 3 to 6 minutes.

Remove from heat and whisk in garlic, and salt and pepper to taste.

Serve over mashed potatoes, biscuits, or meat, and enjoy!

Add butter or pan drippings to a large pan.&nbsp; Melt butter over medium heat.

While stirring, add flour a tablespoon at a time.&nbsp;Whisk as you add.

Slowly pour in the stock, a cup at a time to prevent lumps.&nbsp; Whisk or stir well.

Stir constantly over medium heat until gravy thickens and reaches desired thickness.&nbsp; Add additional broth if it gets too thick.

Taste for seasoning and add salt and pepper and/or poultry seasoning if desired.&nbsp; I only use poultry seasoning if I used butter instead of pan drippings.

milliliters port

tbsp redcurrant jelly

1.6l chicken, turkey or beef stock

Heat the butter in a saucepan (or in a roasting tin containing meat juices from your roast), then scatter over the flour. Stir until it forms a dark, sandy paste. Splash in the port, stir in the redcurrant jelly and cook down until sticky. Stir in the stock and simmer for 5 mins. Decant into a warmed gravy jug to serve.

Serve this healthy, low-fat gravy with Sunday lunch, bangers and mash, or even with turkey on Christmas Day. It can be frozen, too, if you want to make it ahead

vegetable stock, or chicken stock

Heat the oil in a saucepan then add the vegetables and cook them over a medium-high heat for 10-15 mins to brown – if they burn at the edges, then all the better. Stir in the ketchup and dried mushrooms and cook together until everything becomes sticky, then splash in the vinegar. Stir in the stock and season with a pinch of salt, if you like. Bring to the boil, then simmer gently for 20 mins.

Using a hand blender, blitz to create a thin soup-like consistency, then pass through a sieve into another saucepan and bring to the simmer. Slake the cornflour with a splash of water, then pour into the liquid and continue to cook until thickened. Serve straightaway, chill, or freeze for reheating at a later date. Can be frozen for up to three months in an airtight container.

So many people send me messages asking how to make gravy and tell me they just can&#39;t get it right. So, I am giving you explicit directions within the blog on how to make the easiest recipe that is going to turn into the exact consistency every time you make it. And added bonus once you pop your bangers and mash in the oven, you are going to start your gravy and by the time your bangers and mash are done your gravy will also be ready to smother those bangers and mash! I used smoked chicken apple sausages, however you can use any smoked sausage you prefer to make this dish your own. Alright enough said, let&#39;s make it!

Easy Bangers and Mash

oz package prepared mashed potatoes

½ a wheel of Boursin caramelized onion and herbs (or any flavor boursin cheese)

chicken apple sausages (you can use any type of sausage)

oz shredded whole milk mozzarella cheese

black pepper (to taste)

garlic

water

oz envelope of Lipton onion soup mix

tbsp worcestershire (or to taste)

To make the bangers and mash, grease a baking dish and add in the prepared mashed potatoes. Smooth it out so that it is an even layer. Next, evenly sprinkle the cubes of butter over the mashed potatoes. Take the boursin cheese, break it up into pieces, and evenly sprinkle it over the mashed potatoes. Then, shake over some cracked black pepper. Now, add your sausages over the mashed potatoes (make sure they are spaced out so the sausages aren't touching each other). Lastly, sprinkle in some shredded mozzarella cheese.

Bake that in the oven at 410°F for 30 - 35 minutes. Flip the sausages halfway through the cooking time so they can get browned on both sides.

While that's baking it's time to make the easy onion gravy! To a pot add in butter, sliced onions, and cracked black pepper (to taste). Saute that on a medium heat for about 8 - 10 minutes or until the onions become lightly golden. Then, add in the chopped garlic and saute it for another 2 minutes (don't burn the garlic).

Then, shake in the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 - 3 minutes. Now, pour in the water and the onion soup mix, bring the pot to a boil, and whisk it continuously for about 1 - 2 minutes. Once the pot comes to a boil, lower it to a simmer, and shake in the worcestershire sauce. Whisk that continuously for another minute and then let it simmer on low for about 3 - 5 minutes. Then the gravy is done!

Serve the onion gravy over your bangers and mash. Enjoy!
