Delicious flaky pastry with figs, goat cheese and walnuts. SUPER easy to make! Perfect as a dessert, appetizer or even as part of brunch.

Easy Fig Pastry Recipe

oz fresh black mission figs

4-5 oz goat cheese, room temperature

walnuts, roughly chopped;

tbsp good fig jam

tbsp butter, melted

Divide thawed puff pastry into four fairly equal rectangular pieces and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Spread goat cheese on each piece. Add jam, figs and then chopped walnuts.

Brush figs and edges of puff pastry with melted butter.

Bake in 375F oven for 18-20 minutes or until pastry is golden and puffy.

Garnish with chopped mint leaves and more walnuts, if desired.

Maple Fig Tarte Tatin

salted butter

maple syrup

vanilla extract

figs,

puff pastry, thawed

thyme and blueberries, for topping

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.2. Melt together the butter and maple in a 10-inch oven safe skillet. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to medium. Boil for 3 to 4 minutes.&nbsp;Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.&nbsp;Arrange the figs, cut side down in the skillet, overlapping them slightly if&nbsp;needed.&nbsp;3. Place the pastry over the figs and press down gently to secure, tucking the sides of&nbsp;the pastry under the figs as best you can. Using a&nbsp;sharp knife, make 3 small cuts in the center of the pastry. Place the skillet on a baking sheet&nbsp;and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the pastry is a dark golden brown.&nbsp;When the tarte tatin is done baking, remove it from the oven. Allow to rest in the pan for&nbsp;2 minutes and then place a serving plate over the hot skillet. Carefully invert the skillet and allow&nbsp;the tarte tatin to fall out onto the plate.&nbsp;4. Garnish with thyme and berries. Serve warm with a vanilla ice cream. YUMMMM!&nbsp;

This recipe is totally worth making. In my case, a half cup of maple syrup was way too much.  Along with the juice from the figs, the tatin had WAY too much liquid to have been flipped over. It would've been a disaster. So we just ate it with the pastry on top.

 I made it again today and used about a third less syrup, one tablespoon less butter and really boiled it in the pan. So it came out much better and it was able to be flipped out of the pan.

Made this today and it's super good! I am an idiot who used unsalted butter (i planned to add salt rather than buy more butter but forgot lol) so it was a tad too sweet, but delicious. I put some flaky salt on top and it worked out but next time I will def ... follow directions and use the right butter (or remember to add salt).

Crazy good, delicious, sweet mapley flavor and fresh figs right off our own trees I cannot say enough about this tarte.  One of the best things I ever ate hands down!

Fig, cardamom and orange hot cross buns recipe

wholemeal flour

dried yeast

dried figs, chopped

(70 grams) candied orange, chopped

tbs cardamom

cinnamon

orange

milk

runny honey

unsalted butter

tbs orange blossom water

egg, lightly beaten

(75 grams) plain flour

(60 milliliters) milk

tsp orange blossom water

Step 1

Combine flour, yeast, dried fruits, spices, orange zest and 1/2 tsp salt flakes in the bowl of In a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook.

Step 2

Combine milk and honey in a small saucepan and stir over medium heat until lukewarm. Remove from the heat, stir in butter and orange blossom water to combine, then stir in egg.

Step 3

Mixing on low speed, gradually add milk mixture to flour mixture, then increase speed to medium-high and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Transfer dough to a lightly buttered bowl, turn to coat, cover with plastic wrap and stand in a warm place for 45 minutes-1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 4

Meanwhile, preheat oven to 200°C and line a large baking tray with baking paper.

Step 5

Knock back dough on a lightly floured surface and divide into 12 even pieces. Roll each into a ball and place on prepared tray, leaving 2-3cm between each. Cover loosely with a clean tea towel and stand for 45 minutes-1 hour until doubled in size.

Step 6

For the piping, stir flour and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Transfer to a zip-lock bag and cut a small hole in one corner. Pipe a cross on each bun and bake for 10 minutes, then reduce oven to 180°C and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden and buns sound hollow when tapped.

Step 7

For the orange blossom glaze, stir honey and orange juice in a small saucepan over medium-high heat to combine, bring to the boil, remove from the heat and stir in orange blossom water. Brush generously over warm buns, pouring any remaining glaze over (the buns will soak up the extra glaze) and serve. Buns are best eaten on the day they are made, but are also excellent toasted after a day or two.
