Traditional French Onion Soup Recipe

LBS of peeled, sliced onions (yellow, sweet, or a combination of both)

beef broth

butter

Olive oil

garlic

dry white wine

salt

black pepper

bread baguette

Gruyere cheese (or Swiss cheese)

Put the butter and a couple tablespoons of olive oil in a large stock pot. Heat until butter is melted, and add all the onions. Saute on medium-high heat for about 10 minutes, until the onions have softened.

Reduce heat to medium-low and let the onions cook down for between 45 and 90 minutes, stirring occasionally. You want the onions to turn a golden brown color, but make sure they do not burn. Once they are nearly done, add in the minced garlic and cook a couple more minutes.

Add the salt, pepper, and beef broth. Turn heat up until everything reaches a low boil, and then reduce heat. Cover and cook on a low simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

When the simmer is almost done, preheat oven to 400 degrees. Slice the baguette into slices about 1/2 inch thick. Brush each side of the slices with olive oil, and bake on a cookie sheet for about 4 minutes on each side (until the slices are golden brown and toasted).

Place 2 slices of the toasted baguette into a soup crock, ramekin, or other oven-safe bowl. Ladle the soup over top until the bowl is nearly full, and then sprinkle a generous amount of the shredded cheese over top. Place bowl on a cookie sheet and broil for a couple minutes (until cheese is melted and golden brown).

This French Onion Pork Loin is stuffed with caramelized onions, melty Gruyère cheese, and savory seasoning, then grilled to juicy perfection. A show-stopping pork recipe that’s perfect for family dinners, holidays, or special gatherings.

Yellow onions

tbsp Olive oil

Unsalted butter

Beef broth

Worcestershire sauce

tbsp Dad's Steak Seasoning

Slice up 4 yellow onions and throw them in a large pot with the butter and olive oil, and cook over medium/low heat, stirring occasionally.

Once the onions are soft and start turning golden, add the beef stock and Worcestershire sauce.

Continue cooking and stirring the onions until they turn golden brown, approximately 30-45 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to fully cool down.

Carefully cut down the side of the loin without cutting all the way though.  Open it up like a book and lay if flat. 

Cover it with a piece of plastic wrap and pound it down until it&#39;s 1/4&quot; thick and nice an even.

Season the butterflied pork loin with 2 tbsps of Dad&#39;s Steak Seasoning.

Add a layer of shredded Gruyere cheese and a layer of the caramelized onions. Be sure to leave a few tbsps left of each for use later.

Carefully roll the pork loin from one end to the other. Secure everything with 4-5 pieces of butcher&#39;s twine.

Preheat the grill to 300-325 degrees and set for indirect heat. Place the pork loin an a wire rack and place in the grill. 

When the pork reaches an internal temperature of 135 degrees, top it off with  the remaining cheese and onions.

Pull it off the grill when the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees and allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

I just made this for our New Years Eve Party!!! Did the cook on my BGE! It took 2.5 hours at 325’ but the loin was 14lbs!!!

We tried this on a random Sunday dinner. Wow!  It was so good!  We are now making for our holiday dinner for 6guests  I’m sure it’ll be a hit!

I made if for a birthday celebration. It turned out wonderful and the family loved it. I added chopped mushrooms (only because I needed to get rid of them), madeira wine and minced garlic to the onion mixture. When it was resting, I spread it with some herbed butter. Will definitely make it again.

Definitely great! We used some Gouda/Swiss gruyere cheese it was delicious. Cooked mine in the grill the family loved it! Definitely making this again next time.
