General Tso’s Tempeh Recipe by Tasty

Chop the tempeh into chicken nugget-sized pieces and transfer to a mixing bowl.

Add the cornstarch, paprika, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, rice wine, and soy sauce to the bowl. Mix until incorporated. Cover and chill in fridge for 1 hour minimum.

Add oil to a pan on medium-high heat and pan-fry tempeh until browned on both sides. Remove from pan.

In the same pan, add in oil and sesame oil on medium-high heat.

Add the garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes, and cook until golden brown and aromatic, about 1 minute.

Add the tomato paste and vegetable broth, and stir until incorporated.

Add the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and honey, and stir until all are incorporated.

Add the cornstarch slurry (mix the cornstarch with the water in a small bowl until paste forms) into sauce mixture and stir until sauce thickens.

Return the tempeh to the pan and allow to incorporate with the sauce. Top with sesame seeds (optional).

Easy General Tso's Chicken

chicken breasts (about 3 breasts)

vegetable oil

hoisin sauce

soy sauce

brown sugar

garlic (3 to 4 cloves)

sesame oil

(3-ounce) packets ramen noodles (seasoning discarded)

green onions, sesame seeds, and more soy sauce (optional)

Cut the chicken into 1-inch pieces. Place the corn starch in gallon zip-top bag. Add in the chicken, seal, and toss to coat.

In a medium bowl, stir together the hoisin, soy, brown sugar, garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ground ginger, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.

Prepare ramen noodles according to package directions (without using the seasoning packets). Drain and set aside.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Shake off excess cornstarch and add the chicken to the hot oil. Cook the chicken pieces until they are browned on both sides and cooked through. Depending on the size of the pan, you may need to work in batches, being sure not to crowd the pan. Add additional oil if necessary. Remove the chicken from the skillet to a plate and set aside.

Add the sauce ingredients to the pan. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook for about 5 minutes or until the sauce has thickened. Add additional crushed red pepper to your liking.

Return the chicken to the pan and coat in the sauce. Add the cooked ramen and toss to coat. Add additional soy sauce if desired. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired. Serve immediately.

General Tso's Tofu Stir-Fry

If serving with rice and broccoli, begin preparing at this time. Otherwise, move onto the next step.

Wrap tofu in a clean, absorbent towel and set something heavy on top to absorb excess moisture, such as a cast iron skillet (or use a tofu press). Let rest for about 10 minutes.

Prep/chop green onions, garlic, and ginger at this time. Set aside.

While tofu is pressing, prepare stir-fry sauce by combining sesame oil, cornstarch, minced garlic, minced ginger, rice vinegar, maple syrup, tamari or soy sauce, and water in a small mixing bowl and whisk thoroughly to combine. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed (I left mine as is).

Heat a large metal or cast iron skillet (mine is 10”) over medium heat. In the meantime, unwrap tofu and cut into even pieces, about 3/4-inch cubes (see photo).

Add tofu to a shallow mixing bowl (see photo) and top with tamari or soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, sesame oil, and maple syrup (DO NOT ADD CORNSTARCH AT THIS TIME). Toss to combine. Let rest 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Use a slotted spoon or fork to transfer tofu to a quart-size or large freezer bag (or tupperware container), leaving the remaining marinade behind (can be drizzled over rice and broccoli for serving). Add cornstarch 1 Tbsp at a time and toss to coat. Continue adding more cornstarch and tossing until tofu is coated in a gummy, white layer - about 5 Tbsp (amount as original recipe is written // adjust if altering batch size).

To the hot skillet, add 2 Tbsp (amount as original recipe is written // adjust if altering batch size) neutral oil and let warm for 30 seconds. Then use a slotted spoon or fork to add tofu to the pan (leaving any excess cornstarch behind).

Cook tofu on all sides for ~1 minute, or until light golden brown. You don’t want it blackened or burned, as you’ll be cooking it again later with the sauce. Aim for a consistent golden brown crust (see photo). Remove tofu from pan as it’s finished browning. Set aside. NOTE: If you prefer firmer / crispier tofu, option at this time to transfer tofu to a 375 degree F (190 C) oven in a cast iron pan or parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes (or more) to dry it out. This will create a firmer, chewier tofu in the final dish. However, it does make it more than a 30 minute recipe.

Return skillet to burner and increase heat to medium-high. Add 1 Tbsp (amount as original recipe is written // adjust if altering batch size) sesame oil, chopped green onions, and dried red chilies. Sauté for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently.

Add the sauce and tofu. Cook, stirring frequently, to coat the tofu and vegetables for 1-2 minutes, or until warmed through and the sauce has slightly thickened (see photo).

Remove pan from heat and add sesame seeds (optional). Toss to coat.

Serve with rice and steamed broccoli (optional), or other desired sides. Best when fresh, though leftovers keep for 2-3 days in the refrigerator. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave.

He was born in the Hunan province of China and went to Taiwan after the Chinese civil war. He says the dish was inspired by flavors of Hunanese cuisine and named after a Hunanese general. Pang later moved to New York and opened his first restaurant. He adapted his recipe to cater to his new audience and the dish quickly spread in popularity. This is our plant-based (tofu) version!

This recipe is so quick to put together and super delicious. Few ingredients and it is a good meal to go.

Peel the onions. Wash onions and Bell peppers. Chop onions and bell peppers into large pieces about 1 inches squares.

Place inner pot inside the Instant Pot. Plug it in

Press Saute and set it on high. Once the screen displays HOT, add oil to it. After few seconds, add chopped onion and bell peppers.

Saute the vegetables for 3-4 minutes. Then add frozen Vegan Meatballs + General Tso&#039;s Sauce + Water to it. Give it a good stir. Make sure to scrape the bottom.

Cancel the Saute. Place the lid and secure it. Press Pressure Cook Mode and set it on HIGH for 5 MINUTES.

Once the timer goes off, follow NPR (natural pressure release). Once the safety pin drops, open the lid and give it a good stir scraping the bottom of the pot.

Vegan General Tso&#039;s Meatballs are ready. Serve these hot with some white rice on the side.

In a medium bowl, combine the coconut aminos, tomato paste, fish sauce, sesame oil, monk fruit sweetener, five spice powder, vinegar, red pepper chili flakes, ginger and garlic together.

MAKE THE SAUCE:

Season chicken with salt, pepper and 1/2 tablespoon of the sauce/marinade. Dip chicken in egg white and coat with almond flour. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes.

Turn your Instant Pot to SAUTE then add in oil. Once oil is hot, add the chicken and cook for 1-2 minutes, until a brown coating appears (chicken will not be cooked through which is fine). You may have to work in batches.

Once you've browned all the chicken, place back in the Instant Pot and pour in the remaining sauce along with 1/3 cup water (or chicken broth). Cover with lid.

Press the valve to SEALING and press MANUAL or PRESSURE COOK for 4 minutes. The Instant Pot will take some time to come to pressure. Once the 4 minutes is up, use a long spoon and push the valve to VENTING for a QUICK RELEASE.

Once all the pressure is released, carefully unlock the lid. Press the SAUTE button, then whisk the xanthum gum (or arrowroot starch) with 2 tablespoons water until combined and stir into the Instant Pot. Allow sauce to cook until it bubbles and thicken.

Add the dried chili peppers, if using. Adjust seasonings with salt, pepper or red pepper chili flakes an / or add more water as needed to thin out sauce. Give everything a final tossing to coat well.

Transfer to a platter and serve warm on a large platter or over zoodles, cauliflower rice.

Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, if desired.
