Orange Cookies with Sweet Orange Glaze

all purpose flour

baking powder

salt

sugar

orange zest

unsalted butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking pans with parchment paper or silicone baking mats; set aside.

Make the Cookies: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.

In a small bowl, combine the the sugar and orange zest, rubbing them together with your fingers until the zest is completely incorporated into the sugar.

Using an electric mixer on medium speed, cream together the butter and the orange zest-infused sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg and orange and mix until combined, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. If the dough seems a little on the soft side, refrigerate it for up to 30 minutes.

Using a medium cookie scoop (or 2 tablespoonfuls), scoop out the dough and roll them into balls, placing them 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until very lightly browned around the edges, but still pale in the middle. Let cool for 5 to 10 minutes on the cookie sheet, and then remove to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Make the Sweet Orange Glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, orange zest, and enough orange juice to achieve the desired consistency (less juice for a thicker glaze, more for a thinner one). Spread glaze over top of the cooled cookies, and allow to set at room temperature for at least 30 minutes. Store at room temperature in an airtight container (divide layers with wax paper so the cookies don&#x27;t stick together).

¾ cups (350 grams) all-purpose flour

(33 grams) cornstarch

baking soda

fine sea salt

(113 grams) unsalted butter, (at cool room temperature)

(200 grams) granulated sugar

egg, (at room temperature)

(75 grams) sour cream, (at room temperature)

vanilla extract

almond extract, (optional but highly recommended)

+ 2 tablespoons (266 grams) powdered sugar, (sifted)

(113 grams) unsalted butter, (at a cool room temperature)

(30 grams) heavy or whipping cream

Gel food coloring, (if desired)

Sprinkles, (if desired)

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl with a rubber spatula. On low speed, add the egg, sour cream, vanilla, and almond extract (if using). Turn the speed to medium and beat until the mixture is thicker (will look slightly curdled), about 2 minutes. Scrape down the bowl again. On low speed, gradually add the flour mixture, beating until just combined.

Using a medium spring-loaded scoop (1 ½ tablespoons), drop balls of cookie dough onto prepared sheets in four rows of three. Roll each ball until smooth, then flatten them to ¼-inch thick with the palm of your hand. If the dough is too sticky, dampen your hands slightly as needed.

Bake until the cookies appear dry on the top but still pale at the edges, about 11 minutes.

Place on a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the cookie dough:

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add the sugar and butter. Mix on low speed until smooth and then increase the speed to medium and beat for another 3 minutes.

Add the salt, vanilla, and cream and beat on medium speed for 1 minute, adding more cream if needed. Add the food color, if using.

Frost each cookie with a heaping tablespoon of frosting. Use the back of a spoon or an offset spatula to spread it evenly. If you’d like to add sprinkles, do so right after frosting each cookie, as the frosting can set quickly. Allow the cookies to sit for about 4 hours or until the frosting is firm. This time may vary depending on your kitchen’s humidity.

Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to six days or up to six weeks in the freezer. Thaw in fridge overnight, then let come to room temperature before serving. Note that coloring of sprinkles may bleed when frozen and thawed.

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Line a 9x13 baking sheet with parchment.

In a small bowl mix flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl mix sugar, brown sugar, white sugar, butter and eggs until well combined. Add the vanilla and mix. Add in dry ingredients and mix again.

Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto parchment lined baking sheet. Bake at 350ºF for 7-9 minutes.

To make the Glaze: Whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2 TBSP softened butter and 1 TBSP lemon juice until smooth. If glaze is too thick or too tart, you can whisk in 1-2 TBSP hot water.

Cool completely and spoon glaze onto each cookie. Enjoy!
