Need a healthy frosting to make your baked goods complete? This Healthier Chocolate Frosting is an easy, two ingredient recipe that's sure to make any cake or brownie extra delicious. Plus, it only requires 5 minutes of hands-on work.

Healthier Chocolate Frosting

coconut cream (not coconut milk)

(12 ounces) bag chocolate chips

Make the frosting first. In a double boiler (a saucepan filled with water with a glass bowl on top filled with chocolate chips), melt your chocolate and coconut cream. The coconut cream is just the hard white part at the top of the can. Discard the remaining liquid or use in smoothies.

Once melted completely, let bowl rest on counter for 15 minutes. Then place in fridge for 2 hours.

Meanwhile, take frosting out of fridge. If it is too hard to blend, let sit for 15 minutes at room temp. If it&#8217;s soft, whisk with hand mixer until fluffy. If you don&#8217;t have hand mixer, whisk well with a hand whisk.

Chocolate frosting with a secret healthier ingredient: avocado! Vegan, oil-free, nut-free, naturally sweetened, and made without powdered sugar!

Chocolate Avocado Frosting (Vegan, No Powdered Sugar!)

maple syrup

cocoa powder

tsp vanilla extract

sea salt

To a food processor*, add all ingredients (avocado, maple syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt). Process until smooth and velvety, scraping down the sides as needed.

Taste and adjust, adding more maple syrup or cocoa powder if you can taste the avocado. Avoid adding too much maple syrup to keep the frosting thick!

The frosting pipes beautifully and holds up well at room temperature for several hours. Use a knife or piping bag to frost your favorite cake, cupcakes, whoopie pies, or brownies. It&#39;s also delicious with fresh fruit (especially strawberries!).

The flavor is best within the first day, but it does keep stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Not freezer friendly.

This healthy frosting is so rich and creamy and perfect to top ALL your favorite desserts with. No powdered sugar and no butter needed, it tastes like actual chocolate frosting!

4-Ingredient Healthy Frosting

coconut oil (melted)

cocoa powder (I used dark cocoa powder)

applesauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine your coconut oil, maple syrup, and cocoa powder. Mix until a glossy liquid chocolate texture remains. Add your unsweetened applesauce. Start with 1 cup and, depending on what texture you are after, increase. 

Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes to thicken slightly. If you need to use it immediately, add a teaspoon or two of cornstarch, or as needed.

Love this frosting. I found it made 24 servings for me. So, I used 1/2 recipe to cover the 9x5 loaf size brownie recipe (the no sugar recipe using applesauce, almond butter &amp; cocoa). I cut it into 12 brownies. Very rich, especially when using Dark cocoa. A great chocolate fix without the extreme blood sugar spike. Thank you.
I figured the combination equals about 128 calories per brownie (if cut into 12 pieces.)

Hello!

I'm going to try this recipe but want to know why it's recommended to use refined coconut oil as opposed to unrefined? We use unrefined in cooking which is why we have it already.

Maybe baby food applesauce will have a finer grain and use a tad less if it has more moisture? Either case if it is too thick, a fraction of tsp apple juice concentrate at a time might loosen it up without over-sweetening.
