Homemade Hoagie Rolls make for the best sandwich. Nothing beats a loaf of fresh homemade bread, and these hoagie rolls don't disappoint!

Homemade Hoagie Rolls

milk

sugar

salt

butter (softened)

all purpose flour

In a large stand mixer, combine milk, yeast, sugar, salt, butter, egg and 3 cups flour. Knead on low until a smooth dough ball forms, adding more flour ¼ cup at a time to achieve desired texture. Your dough should be tacky, but not sticky.

Transfer dough to a lightly greased mixing bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise until double in size, about 1 hour.

Roll dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick, and 24 inches wide. Cut the dough into 4 strips, about 6 inches wide on each.

Roll strip up. Continue rolling gently until ends and seams are pinched together (otherwise it'll unroll in the baking process).

Put rolls on a lightly greased jelly baking sheets. Let rise about 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake rolls for 12-15 minutes until lightly browned.

These sandwiches, which are inspired by Philly cheese steaks, are made with beef marinated in classic Korean barbecue flavors. Tender rib-eye steak is thinly sliced and pounded to mimic the texture of shaved meat, then tossed in a savory garlic-soy marinade. Thin-skinned shishito peppers, a common ingredient in Korean cuisine, stand in for traditional bell peppers. Shishito peppers vary in spiciness, so once blistered, they will add mild, or sometimes bold, heat to the sandwiches. Rib-eye creates the juiciest sandwiches, but sirloin is more affordable, and a solid substitute.

Bulgogi Cheese Steaks

rib-eye steak, sliced crosswise 1/8-inch-thick

soy sauce

scallions (from about 6 large scallions)

turbinado sugar

garlic

black pepper,

sesame oil

onion,

peppers,

Kosher salt

(10-inch) hoagie rolls, split lengthwise

American cheese

Arrange meat in a single layer on a large cutting board. Cover with plastic wrap and pound with a meat mallet (or the bottom of a small skillet) until meat is super thin, about 1/16-inch thick.

In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, scallions, sugar, garlic, pepper and sesame oil. Add meat and toss to evenly coat, massaging sauce into meat.

In a large skillet, heat 1/4 cup of the safflower oil over medium. Add onion and shishito peppers, and season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until tender and lightly caramelized, 8 to 10 minutes. Divide among the rolls.

In the same skillet, heat 2 tablespoons safflower oil over medium. Add half of the beef and season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring to break up the meat, until golden brown and cooked through, about 3 minutes.

Form into 2 even mounds and top each mound with 2 slices of cheese. Remove from heat and let stand until cheese melts, about 1 minute. Using a flat spatula or large serving spoon, scoop into 2 rolls and drizzle with pan juices. Wipe out skillet with paper towels. Repeat with remaining safflower oil, beef and cheese to make 2 more sandwiches.

Easy Hoagie Rolls

Cups Warm Water

Tablespoon Instant Yeast

Tablespoons Granulated Sugar

Honey

3 3/4 Cups All-Purpose Flour

Salt

Tablespoons Unsalted Butter (cubed)

Egg White

Milk

In the bowl of a standing mixer, add the warm water, yeast, sugar, and honey.

Allow to foam up for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Add the flour and using a dough hook mix for 4 minutes on low.

Increase the speed to medium and add the salt, mixing for another 3 minutes.

Finally, add the cold butter, one tablespoon at a time and mix for another minute or two after each addition. Continue to mix until no pieces of butter remain. This is going to be odd to see that butter slapping around in there, but trust me, as you mix the dough will firm up and be silky and all butter will be incorporated.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning over to coat, cover with a towel and allow to rise for 1 to 2 hours.

Place a silpat or parchment paper on a baking sheet and shape the dough into 4-8 hoagies depending on size preference. I like to flatten each piece into a rectangle, fold one end up like an envelope, turn 180 degrees and fold up the other end over the first. Repeat until you&#039;ve formed a hoagie and pinch shut the seam and end seams.

Place seam side down and repeat with remaining dough.

Cover lightly with a towel and allow to rise another 1 to 2 hours.

Whisk together the egg white and milk. Using a razor blade, make a slit down the top of each roll. Brush each top with the egg mixture.

Preheat the oven to 375ºF, place the hoagie rolls on the baking pan and bake for 16 to 22 minutes.

Remove from the oven when they are lightly golden and feel hard when you tap the crust.

Rub with a little butter if desired and allow to cool.

The bread is hard upon removal but quickly softens, so don&#039;t worry that you over baked.
