This Air Fryer Corn Dogs recipe is homemade and from scratch. Making your own state fair dogs can&#x27;t get any better than these! A frozen batch can be reheated and air fried to save time for weeknight meals.

Air Fryer Corn Dogs

yellow corn meal

all-purpose flour

sweetener

baking powder

salt

egg, beaten

buttermilk

butter

hot dogs (I use uncured, nitrate-free beef)

skewers

cooking oil (I use olive oil)

Add the dry ingredients (corn meal, flour, baking powder, sweetener and salt) to a large bowl and stir.

Add in the wet ingredients (beaten egg, melted butter, and buttermilk). Stir.

Pour the batter into a large drinking glass to dip the dogs.

Remove the hot dogs from the packaging and dry them completely. This will help the batter stick to the hot dogs.

Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cut the hot dogs in half. I use a Cosori 5.8 quart and the corn dogs fit fine.

Thread the hot dogs with the skewers. Push each stick into the hot dogs about 3/4ths of the way into the hot dog.

Line the air fryer basket with air fryer parchment paper. I have tested this recipe with and without the paper. It works best to use it.

Dip each hot dog into the batter in the drinking glass and ensure each is coated.

Set the hot dogs in the parchment paper-lined air fryer basket. If there are areas of the hot dog that are missing batter, use a spoon and add more batter to those areas. This is easier to do once you get the corn dogs in the air fryer.

Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if needed.

Spray the corn dogs with cooking oil.

Air fry the hot dogs for 8-12 minutes on 400 degrees until golden brown. I did not flip the corn dogs.

Cool before serving.

Mini Homemade Corn Dogs

Preheat peanut oil in a deep fryer or dutch oven (with the oil 4 inches up the side of the pan) to 350°F.

Place the cut hot dogs and cornstarch into a gallon-sized ziptop bag. Close the bag and shake to coat the hot dogs in the cornstarch.

Using a bamboo skewer, insert the skewer into the hot dog but don’t go out the other side, place it on a sheet tray. Repeat with the remaining hot dogs.

In a medium-sized bowl whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

In another bowl whisk together the milk, melted butter, and egg.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk together until there are no lumps. Let the batter sit for 5 minutes.

Pour the batter into a cup.

Grab a skewered hot dog by the stick and dip it into the batter until it is fully coated.

Let any excess drip off and immediately lower it slowly into the hot oil. I only work with two corn dogs at a time.

Fry until golden brown on all sides, and flip the corn dogs around so they are evenly browned for about 5 minutes.

Place the corn dogs on a paper-towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.

Immediately place them on a wire rack over a sheet tray to catch any drips. Repeat with the remaining hot dogs and batter.

Perfect for when you can’t make it to the fair or carnival, this Homemade Corn Dog Recipe will definitely fill that craving! Crisp on the outside, these corn dogs are loved by both kids and adults.

Using skewers or long chopsticks, thread the hot dogs. Make sure to leave enough of the handle to keep ahold of while frying. Set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, four, sugar, baking powder, salt and pepper.

In another bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir to combine. The batter should be fairly thick, but if it’s too thick, add in a little extra milk, a tablespoon at a time.

Heat several inches of oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. The oil needs to be around 350ºF.

Transfer the batter to a tall cup. It’s easiest to dip the hot dogs if the cup is deeper than the hot dog is long.

Working with one hot dog at a time, dip the dog into the batter, twisting it to coat it with the batter. Lift the hot dog out and let any excess drip off (but make sure the hot dog is still completely coated).

Place the dipped hot dog into the hot oil and start to twirl the hot dog by the stick. I’ll usually rest the stick on the side of the pan, but make sure that the hot dog is completely covered by hot oil. Once the coating has started to brown a bit, you can stop twisting the hot dog, but you’ll want to make sure the hot dog browns evenly on all sides.

Once the hot dog is golden brown, remove it from the oil and place on a paper towel covered plate.

Hey! Just dust it with some flour before dipping it in the batter. Works best! :)
